The new ships
Just thought I'd open up a section for user feedback for the devs. What do u guys think of the new ships? Personally I think the prom is about good considering i was able to take Dave halfway down before he killed me and I know I'm not as good a pilot as dave. The valk however i tend to think needs some work still as it appears the Cent is still a better choice. I still agree with the updated post of spellcast's suggestions which has been changed since the patch. Take some armor off the cent and the valk becomes usable again with a bit more mass/thrust. Anyway, thats all in spellcast's balance post in suggestions. Let the feedback begin!
P.S. Thanks for cap-ship devs!!!!! Woot!!!

in my opinion the ship is decently balanced.
I have fought uncles prom and I can guarantee that if my aim didn't suck utter shit, I would have taken his prom further then the amount I bring it to. And I am pretty sure that if any of the recent vets use their skills (non rusty) that they will be even more successfull.
the reason being is that the vult is flinterthin effectively reducing the probability of an actual hit. just make sure that you never expose your broad side to his gatlingpower, what due to the better handling of the vult is doable. However I have a slight feeling that if you add a gauss and a n3 and you have a somewhat better pilot then me, that the prom will go down.
A cent gets however mauled by the flares if he isn't carefull. and trust me the extra armor that the vult has more hten makes up for the skippyness of the cent.
I didn't try a valk so I can't say anyhting. And ow yeah, just for kicks I tried it in a bus, I didn't stand a chance :D, but was fun.

Actually, The prom mkIII either needs a big weight reduction, or an increase to the thrust. Right now, its a pile of crap compared to the other ones, its comparative "lightness" doesn't compete with anything that the other ships add, so its a niche ship that should just be removed, or changed.
The current turnrate/acceleration of the SC prom made it more or less useless with flares, since it is unable to push up into enough speeds to be accurate with them. (Yes, I've tried them out extensively)
[edit:]
The Corvus Marauder Mercenary will need a boost in its thrust if we are ever going to see it as a combat ship again.

me is in agreement with Spider.
I have avoided using the prom recently, as people who could not get one have always claimed I beat them, because I was in a prom (even if I have beat said pilot before), which unfortunatly was true - now you have basically broken the sky commands legs (although im not tottaly against the changes) the prom mk3 is the light variant, right now it feels more heavy than the mk2. (the 50 iirc thrust difference isnt turbo thrust, before anyone starts shouting numbers - could we have the turbo thrust viewable ingame? it would affect my choice of ship)
/me is tempted once again to raise Itani standing... (me?)

And if anybody wants to call me a hypocrit, feel free...

Not all ships are created equal, and that's how it should be. Some ships are ment for fast combat others are not, I really wish people would stop wining about the prom not being fast enough to kill a cent, IT SHOULDN'T unless the cent makes a piloting error and flys into the path of a Proms fire. As for the Valk, it too should not be "better" then the cent, they both have there purposes, and the Valk is NOT a light fighter!!
me wishes people would stop whining alltoghter, but i bet the devs dont.

Give the sky 2 l 2 s, that at least supports the description.... (heavy bomber, with uhum, nothing to bomb, yet...)

I cheated and asked a1k0n. The turbo thrust of the prom mkIII and SC are 25 higher than the normal one.
And yet the light variant (except for the 55 turbo drain, which maybe the sky should now have) feels heavier? [sarcasm] Sweet, just how I see a light variant. [/sarcasm]
@ johnhawl218: The Valk has less mass than every other ship in the game, matched only by the IBG Centurian. That by definition makes it a light ship. And don't tell me you don't think it's a fighter. ;-)
i second Beolach: the valk is nothing if not a light fighter. if there's an appropriate distinction to be made between valks and the centurian/vulture, maybe it's this: vultures (especially the corvus vult) and cents are perhaps better classified as interceptors, in that they're fast, lightly armored, and can only a mount light weapon loadout, whereas the valk should be (IMHO) something like a superiority fighter. that is, it shares many features with interceptors (namely speed and inability to carry heavy weapons) but is more manueverable, slightly more powerful, better protected, and just generally more versatile. but they're both 'light' fighters.
moreover, @johnhawl218: a valk should under almost any circumstances be much better than a cent. it costs at least twice as much (as if that matters), it's a special ship, and its level requirements are much higher. but all that's been said before.
but i actually just wanted to get people's take on the new valks. has anyone (black lance) tested them out? how are they?

So a ship that you can get ca. license level 1/2/0/0/0 should "always" be able to beat a ship you can get ca. 9/9/10/-/0? Not only that, but a ship manufactured by a freaking NT splinter corporation versus the best ship manufactured by a nation whose entire purpose is to wage war? Yes, I agree, that makes perfect sense.[/sarcasm]

IBG & Rev. C Cents should have their license requirements raised to around 5/8/-/-/-, and the MkIII raised to 2/4/-/-/-.
As far as who "should" win Cent vs. Prom fights, I'd say usually the Cent, unless the Cent pilot makes the mistake of getting too close, in which case it should go *poof* very fast. And it should take the Cent a LOT of hits to kill the Prom.

I'd actually like to see hogs/hornets get some more attention. Currently flying either of those in any form less than a TD hog = death. I think vults would actually be fine if the armor on the cents was reduced. Rags seem to be useable at the moment with the right config. Other than that and the topics mentioned above I think we're getting pretty close to balanced.
:)
I would be very happy to see more attention given to my favorite ship type (the Hog). I recently gave up my TD for a centuar MKIII (I believe that is the name for the light variant).
Hornets.... I kinda forgot about them since they weren't particularly useful so no one really complained about them they just started yelling nerf or un-nerf.
I would be very happy to see hornets in use as well (but I still like hogs better).

I want to see the Miner Hog get some more spin torque, and a turbo boost to 200 m/s (or at least 195). YOU GONNA HAVE'TA PRY MA' MINER HOG OUTTA MA' COLD, DEAD FINGERS.
Okay, so it happens frequently.. but... yea... I kinda feel like I've been left in the dust. It's so horribly ironic that (IMHO) the best hog is a Miner Hog. It's not the fastest hog, and it's not the strongest hog, but it's the most well rounded, all around sw33t hog.

???
I would have to say that the Territorial Defender is the best hog.
But yeah more spin torque for the hogs would make me very happy :) and make the hogs more PVP useful (real good for botting though).

No. Miner Hog is awesome!
Everyone has their favorites...
So I will defend mine and say it is better because it wins in every department except for the cargo and energy consumption.
:P
So you can have second best... just think your Hog Miner outperforms busses and hornets.
I want to name my hog "Harley" :)
