The new valk

Mar 01, 2005 Ghost link
It has less drain, however, its still fat and still loses to a cent with relatively equal pilots, same as before. Still not usable? Or are there some who will begin using it again because of the reduced drain? Should it be further tweaked to make it keep up with the cent a little better? What are your thoughts?

I like it. I have not found that it'll lose to a Centurion if used well. But I tend to forget that people expect to be able to use things without developing skills. Yes we have skill points. But this isn't like EverQuest. You're not goign to magically gain skill by killing lots of bots. Your combat performance is highly depenant on you actually gaining skill. No amount of tweaking is going to change that fact.

haha, bring your valk to B8 roguelazer :) we'll puff it up for you.

Also note it has *three times the firepower* of a cent... but that hasn't changed.

not really phaser, not since most people fly orion rev-c's because it only takes about 2-4 hours of trading to get the standing needed to buy them.

three times the firepower of a stock cent, which i doubt ghost et al are talking about. it only has one more port than the Rev C and IBG. moreover, that extra port is only relevent if you have access to massless weapons because equipping 3 of anything useful makes the valk pretty sluggish (relative to a cent/vult). this will continue to be the case until either the valk's thrust is increased a little or weapons get a makeover. at least the vengeance is again usable as a CTC interceptor though i don't know how it'll hold up in combat.

New Vengeance and IDF can be used for CtC, but only as support (no cargo hold).

you automatically assume i have no skill roguelazer. Now i'm not saying im as good as eldrad or shape or spider and the like, but ive had my share of fights and tend to think of myself as intermediate. I suggest you do the same test I did. Find a pilot that is relatively equal to you or at least close and fight him several times in a row with a valk. Once u get the feel for it, fight the same pilot immediatly after with an IBG or rev C. I guarantee you will do better in the cent.

I'll vouch for Ghost here. He's a top end pilot. The valks are a lot worse than the IBG or Rev C, even worse than the SVG, Corv Vult, or Vult MkIII. The devs have said they're going to continue to balance these ships...

which is logic.

the weightproblem makes it impossible to utilise its full potential, namely the third weaponport. It suffers from the same infliction that the hornet suffers. But however in a lesser fraction, since it got a couple advantages over the hornet.

cheers

Part of the problems I think the devs face is they need to be offering a high quality ship to lower level players. The IBG is the ship they chose to do that. Perhaps, what needs to be noted is that a base model Valkrie is as agile as an IBG but with 25% better armour and an additional weapons slot.

The Valk is NOT as agile as the cent. It has considerably less thrust than both the IBG and the RevC. moreover, it is a much larger target.

I think Eldrad and Renegade pretty much summed it up.
