Vendetta Programming History

Tried searching the forums.

What's the code linege of this game?

Just joined, seems remakably close to FreeLancer. Real-Remarkably-Close...

Was hoping for a post Jumpgate alternative, that isn't so much the click fest like EVE is (EVE = Way cool though). Not yet sure this is what I'm looking for.

Or did the devs code this game 'from scratch'?

All in-house. The engine's called WGAF, in case you were ever curious.

Lua, not LUA...
Rock on, Devs, for not using RealBASIC! :|

And to put your fears at ease, Zapper, the game began development before the titles you specified came out... or possibly before they were even announced.

Yes, it's a little embarassing that our development history predates most of the games people think it's "based on".

Our engine and game was developed 100% in-house.

I doubt it started before Jumpgate, that started in '97(ish).

I don't doubt it.

Who kinows when the devs here had the first idea for v? It did start as a basement project by the guys many moons ago, which leaves me in no doubt, that vendetta, at least in concept, predates most games mentioned =D

The list of space games i could list that have simalaities to vendetta is longer than i would care for, including my first time in a 3d universe, Elite.

well, elite was the first space game as i recall. after all, you dont get much older than a game that was ported to a c-64 :)

Well the first space game I played, in 1973, was on a DEC pdp-10 (or was it pdp-9) it was "Star Trek." You gave your orders and the teletype would print out the map... then you gave your new orders and the teletype would print out the new map... etc. I went through rolls of paper!

As far as I'm concerned all these games are based on that ;-)

Meh. We have a whole PDP-8 in the basement.

In fact, it's the computer that used to run the scoreboard at Fenway Park in Boston!

I'm completely serious.
