It's not fair!
Why can't we just have a membership program instead of one large tax on everybody. Why not just make only the VERY best things in the game the ones you need a membership with and the rest can just be simply free stuff.
Guild has worked for five years to build this game, to make it beautiful and fun and stable. They have sacrificed immense amounts of time and large amounts of their personal money to see their game come to fruition. They need to buy food and clothing just like anyone else.
If you cannot understand this yet, have faith that within the space of five years, you will.
To all: I'd like to keep this open to see if I hear back from the topic author. Flames will be deleted.

Oo! I almost locked it! Darn you and your edit command.
SInce I'm here, I'll tell you what's not fair:
It's not fair that after years of keeping Vendetta open for free to show off the game-engine that Guild software created and used to build the game, no large company has stepped up to buy the game engine. Because of this, Guild chose to make a go of making their mini showcase game into a fully-fledged MMORPG, rather than just giving up. In the process, they spent their savings and pushed themselves to the brink. They began charging only because we told them that we would pay to play if they would just keep developing the game to match their vision of what it could be. What's not fair is that someone would now rather rudely demand freebies.

How'd that get in suggestions? Probably my goof. Oops. I'll keep it here for a spell.
The problem is, that revenue model doesn't work too well. Look at Shattered Galaxy (by Nexon), for example. Much larger player base than Vendetta, but it's only got one dev. Not such a great way to keep food on the table.
Oh, and the donationware model *definitely* doesn't work, given that the game's currently in this situation (it used to be donationware).
Edit: Not fair? Not fair?!? Gah...

Lifes not fair.
But really man you can't beat $10 a month, what kind of cheap sicko are you? Plus I don't mind helping the Devs out this is a great game, and I hope it gets better. (and I like how they treat Mac and winblows users the same)
J/K about the cheap sicko part. ;p

Vendetta-online is one of the only games i have payed for in years... ..Regardless of ongoing ISP charges, server maintenence charges, and bills for property/energy in general, I feel the devs here have earned that cash, and I just hope theres enough people out there like me to make vendetta the game it deserves to be.
This is an excellent game, and development of such a large scale project is expensive. Bandwidth doesn't come cheaply. The game wouldn't survive if there wasn't some sort of charge for its use. And ten dollars per month is not expensive. Even at minimum wage, that's two hours of work. You can make ten bucks a month mowing a lawn or shoveling a driveway.
This is the first online game that I have ever been willing to pay for. When I first started, I wasn't sure that I was willing to pay a monthly fee to play any game either. However, once I saw the amount of work that went in to this game, the frequent updates, and the fact that the devs actually listen and implement players' ideas (and this is a biggie, you *rarely* find it in any non-oss software), I decided that ten dollars a month was more of a courtesy for the work the devs put in than a charge.
Think of it as a collaborative, community effort to pay for the bandwidth we use and the devs' time, rather than a monthly bill.

overkill the only possible way it is 'not fair' is if you are
under 16 and can legally not make any money.
but that is not vendetta's problem, that is a social problem.
sell some of your old toys on ebay or something.
------
if you are over 16 then i dont know what to tell you.
other than 'can i have a few hundred dollars, i need
some work done on my car?' and a hearty 'thats not fair!'
when you refuse to give it to me.

If you're under 16, you can simply get your parents to pay you $10 for mowing the lawn for a month. Or if it's snowing, get 5 bucks from them for shovelling the driveway and the walk. Or something simple like that. If your parents won't pay you, then ask a neighbor!
[okay, chances are he was a troll. This topic has run its course.]
