How exactly do nation set bounties work?

Feb 13, 2005 yodaofborg link
I had a bounty as I logged on today, ehem, i dont mind, i like it, infact, i tried for said bounty (i thought i had worked out a trigger) but that was a week ago, since then i have been either busy RL, or sat here banging my head as to why my damn x server would not start (as it turned out, is was my fault, heh) - how did i get a bounty without killing anyone? I didnt even undock, they happen offline too? or is that you? or the server bringing things up-to date?

My last bounty was kind of weird too, i spent a bit of time botting my standing up, got bored, went and had a fight in UIT monitored space, won said fight, lost standing, went back botting, 30 mins later (as my uit standing was rising again) bounty =D

I dont mind, im just confused. =/

[Edit]

No i didnt just go blow someone up, it was a duel without the /duel <-- me hates /duel

You get a bounty by killing stuff in monitored space. Once you lose said bounty there is a 1 week delay before you can have another bounty placed on you. So if you lost the bounty, then 10 minutes later, went and killed stuff in UIT monitored space and log off for a week, you would have a bounty placed on you when you log back in.

That kinda of in a round about way makes sense, but errrm, i have had *other situations* with bounties too, my last itani bounty was not in itani space, i have had lots of bounties.

[Edit]

Infact, most itani i have killed have been in grey space...

[Edit 2]

And one or two UIT bounties were triggered in non UIT, but monitored space, i think ive had (if im correct, i may be -1 or + 1) 6 UIT bounties.

I got a serco one w/o being in Serco space...

After all my hard work it was only 600k! DANG YOU YOU CHEAP SERCO!

You don't have to be in that nations space any monitored space will do just fine. For example, i killed about 200 Itani NPCs in serco space and got a 1.1 mil bounty placed a few days later.

A bounty for killling the NPC's? I thought they were put out there for us to shoot. I mean there's like a gazillion of them out there. I thought the idea was to kill as many as possible until you get good stuff out of them. Hmmm

You can kill anything in unmonitored space and you'll be fine. But once you do it in monitored space you'll either lose faction or get a bounty, or both.

what should I do if i want to become a bounty hunter?

Go to a nation capital and talk to the marshall, if you have the levels and pay the fee you can become a bounty hunter. And you do not have to go to each nation capital to be able to collect the bounties from there. Ex. You become a bounty hunter for UIT, you run up on player X who has a bounty with the itani, you kill him, you get the bounty.
