Ship preferences

I'm curious...

What ships do people prefer for various tasks (CtC, botting, trading, PvP, etc)? What battery do you like to use with it?

EDIT: yeah I know these show up periodically, I wanted to see what preferences people have recently.

There's about 50 threads on this already. But oh well, I guess 51 is not -that- high of a number.

Trading: Centaur Mark II, Fast-Charge Battery
Botting: IBG Centurion, Heavy Battery
CtC: Valkyrie Vengeance, Heavy Battery or F-C, depending on my mood
Mining: Ragnarok or Centaur Mark III, Fast-Charge Battery
PvP: See CtC and Botting

well for mining or trading i use a centaur
for botting i use a centurion, a vulture, or a wraith

i always like to use the fc battery for trading and heavy for botting

(no pvp in my routine yet)

CtC (offense): Warthogs (MKII/III), TPG marauders (B/X), vultures, or even centurion MKII/III. Anything else that I find myself in and the transport in the same sector.
CtC (defense): Axia marauder, vulture (MKIII/Corvus), Warthogs (II/III), TPG marauders (B/X), IBG, Centaur Aggresso, EC88 (if I feel like it), almost everything.
Trading: Marauders, Centaur II/Aggresso
Botting: Vultures or Warthogs, or centaurs if I feel like it
Mining: Centaurs
PvP: Usually vultures, Marauders except tunguska if I'm empty, possibly proms and centurions (IBG/Rev C). Hornet if I feel like getting killed.

Usually I use FC for all of them.

CTC/PvP:

As Itani:

Orion Rev C, dual N3/Flares/Gauss

OR
Centaur Mk III, AGT+jacks/screamers/lmines+flares

OR

As Serco:
Prom mk II (currently don't have level 9 as serco)
with (Dual N3's + screamers) or (AGT and flares)

OR

SVG with Dual N3/Gauss/Flare

Trading: when I do it, I use the above centaur variant,
occasionally a TPG maud

Botting: Hogs(AGT+N3), Centaur(All rockets, this is the FUN way
to bot), Vultures+N3's

Mining: Centaur mk II
Feb 05, 2005 CrippledPidgeon link
CtC1: Mineral Extractor Warthog (Gemini/AGT)
CtC2: Mineral Extractor Warthog (Gemini/Repair Gun)
CtC3: Serco Prometheus MkII (Gauss II/Sunflare/AGT)
PvP1: Mineral Extractor Warthog (Gemini/AGT)
PvP2: Serco Prometheus MkII (Gauss II/Sunflare/AGT)
Botting: Mineral Extractor Warthog (N3/PDII)
Trading: Serco Prometheus MkII (Gauss II/Sunflare/AGT)

I don't like to switch ships for every situation, so I try to adapt each ship for every situation. I'm currently flying the Prom II cuz I want to get used to it, but the Hog will always remain close to my heart.

ctc:
Agresso (dual jacks + gauss)
SC Prom (dual flare + megaposi)|(jack + flare + gauss) when I need something a little
faster

trading:
Agresso (dual jacks + gauss)
Agresso (adv scanner + two miningbeams) when I'm too lazy to equip weapons :P

mining:
in botfree sectors:
Agresso (adv scanner + dual hdbeams)
Miningmaud (adv scanner + dual hdbeam)
in bot sectors:
Agresso (adv scanner + dual specialized beams)

botting:
warthog mk2 (megaposi + gauss)
SC Prom (dual flare + megaposi) when I want to make botting a little more "exciting"

PvP:
Agresso (dual jacks + gauss)

I <3 Agresso :D

Do any of you guys use anything other than the heavy/FC battery?

I use a freebat when I /explode back to home.

EC-88 FOREVAH. AND EVAH.
Feb 06, 2005 roguelazer link
Furious: I would use the Ultra Charge battery if I could, but otherwise no. Why would we? The others are steps along the path to high-level batteries, but are not inherently useful in combat situations.
Feb 06, 2005 yodaofborg link
Used to be a little more variation in battery when there was an engine choice, but alas, the devs in all their wisdom bolted them to the ships.

Botting (Normal) : Hog Mk2 + Gauss mk2/Plas dev mk2 FC
Botting (Bored) : EC-88 Stock
Botting (Scrap) : Centaur mk2 + Gauss mk2/2x Mega Positron
CTC : What im in for attack or a prom, various setups, but usually AGT + nt's, or repair gun
PVP : Undecided, used to be a hog.

When was that yoda? I never remember anyone using a Medium or Light Battery. The light is inferior to the free one, for Pete's sake. Now, if they gave batteries mass and let the light and heavy live up to their names, THEN people might use other batteries.

Trends I see so far:
PvP & CtC-- pretty much any ship
Botting -- mostly cent, vulture, hogs with one or two centaurs
Mining/trade -- almost exclusively Centaurs w/ a few Mauds

The good news--- not everyone flies the same ship for every purpose

The bad news -- the centaur seems a bit too flexible, it's large cargo capacity allows it to trade well and it seems to hold its own in combat too.
Feb 06, 2005 Shapenaji link
Centaur is too flexible, but its the only heavy ship that the rest of the galaxy can pilot, the rag doesn't have enough thrust.
Feb 06, 2005 thurisaz link
I've used an infi-boost Cent, since before they were "cool", as much as I can get away with.. mostly that means botting/CtC and for special deliveries

For trading in bulk, a lovely TPG Maud (lots of factions like me, but not many truly LOOOVE me....yet :o )

For non-combat mining, nothing brings it in as fast as a quad-beam Rag :O

==oh, and does anyone else refuse to use non-infi ship/batts?
===my auto-boost bind is too darned useful :D (makes me lazy :OO )
Feb 07, 2005 yodaofborg link
Didnt say they used med/light, but i know i used to use a heavy batt in favour of FC when using heavy engines, these days if i stick on a heavy its because I cannot affort the FC =p

InfiniBoost is Evil™
Feb 07, 2005 Furious link
Yeah, actually I think infiniboost is quite problematic. What I would like to see is a system where each ship has a certain fuel capacity, and boosting drains that capacity. You can still make it drain energy.

The fuel consumption would be dependent on the size of the ship, but you could set it up so that small ships could only boost continuously for 3 minutes, trader ships like the Atlas could boost for 6 minutes, etc...

That way you would need to watch your fuel supply when you are in combat/CtC'ing, etc.. If you aren't careful you could end up a sitting duck.

You would be refueled when you dock. The fuel capacity should be sufficient that if you were to fly directly between stations, you should have plenty of gas. You would only run into trouble when you are out on a long run or when you are in intense combat for a while. If you really want to, you could make the fuel level regenerate slowly so if you sat around for 5 minutes you might get a full fuel tank again.

[I'll repost this in the suggestion forum]

Oh jeez, I'm not sure about this yet. I'm still trying out the newly balanced-ness of the ships. Recently I've been using a Flare-C(One Rev-C with flares), which handles alright considering the weight. I've also been experimenting with the Atlas-X using jackhammers and sunflares, and sometimes a rail MK III instead of the flare. THen I use a Ram-a-rag(three flares and two screamers) for botting. As a rocket user, I always have a fast charge equipped.

I really like rockets ^-^
