As a UIT member, what options do I have as far as becoming another character. Such as a pirate etc. and how do i do this?

Thanks,
Drake Buckman

Well "pirate" and "trader" and "miner" don't REALLY mean much in the terms of this game. All you have to do to become a pirate as a member of any nation is to level up enough to get some good weapons and a good ship, then get good at combat, and start attacking people :p. Likewise, to be a trader, level up enough to get a good trading ship and defensive weapons, then start trading station to station.

This free-formed approach is part of what sets Vendetta apart from the rest. In other games you have to choose a character class, and then you're limited by that choice. Not so in Vendetta.

(Just a personal sidenote: ...the universe doesn't need any more pirates. Take the noble approach...mentor and defend newbies and trade convoys. :-))

<defend newbies and trade convoys>

Can you get experience - level up - and credits from doing this, or is this just a "nice jester" approach? Is there ways to make deals on here, swap credits?

Try this: Delete your character, create a new Serco character, and march with us to glory. You would be the embodiment of Serco's will, crushing the pitiful Itani weaklings and cowardly UIT.

To dominate this universe is our destiny and our right. You may either stand with us in victory or fall by our blade.

Don't listen to them. UIT players are already well suited to be pirates. Just go out there and start blasting ships. When they blow up, collect the cargo and sell it at the local station for profit.

If you don't want to be a pirate, you could start taking bounty hunter missions - they become available after you get combat level 4, I think.

Also, have you tried attacking a hive queen yet?

Why can't I just become a Serco character?

The UIT's seems to be a neutral non-specfic charater anyway?

I think this should be looked at. Or even an option to imagrate to other races.

citshman, do u have a guild?

Well, you can get a better selling price on any cargo you sell if you become a mentor to new players by having them /mentor invite "you"

You can offer to protect a trader for a nominal sum of money which they can give to you by using the /givemoney "your name" amount command.

You can become a bounty hunter by going to your nation's home sector and messaging the Marshall there. There's a fee of 50k as I recall. You are told of bounties by the Marshall, and then you go and kill the players with bounties (at least in theory, as many of those players are good pilots).

There are other nations, not races. You can get good standing with other nations, but you would need to create a new character to be actually listed under a new nation.

Hive queens can be found by following collector bots after they have mined an asteroid and need to go back to the queen to empty their holds.

cool...a bounty hunter

Now that sounds neat. How do you capture another player? How does a senerio usually go? I can probably make a 4 level by this weekend.

Where are the hive queens? gimmie gimmie! lol!

The UIT is in fact a third nation, more a conglomerate. Although you are neutral in the war between Serco and Itani, you are not completely unaligned. We do not fully trust UIT citizens, and I doubt we ever will. From the first moments of our life, Serco citizens are implanted with devices to make us the human tanks the Itani fools face today. The only way to stand by our side as we burn the rotting pyres of our defeated enemies is to give up your former, flawed life in its entirety, being reborn as a Serco. Through these actions alone may you gain glory in our hall of heroes.

There are, however, ways to train towards a stronger, more serco-like existance in your current incarnation.

To find a hive queen, hover around an Orun collector or the like until it fills its hold an heads home. If you are within 1000m of the bot when it jumps, your navicomp will automatically calculate the destination and display it on your HUD. Collectors always return to the queen.

Are Queens hard to destroy? Can you recieve level xp when in an advanced combat mission?

I hate when i lose the ship i have, i costs me 15000 to rebuild it again.
Feb 01, 2005 Spider link
only 15 000? *Grins* I pay more for an empty craft. Just to put it in perspective.

Also, Queens aren't that hard, they just require a bit of patience. however, killing its cohorts, or avoiding them while attacking the queen, can be rather hard.

However, There are no real ingame "controls" that decide what you are or not. Its not "go to the shady char in Grey space and talk to him about becoming a pirate" its "go start pirating and the game and its players will notice you after a while"

how you act and play is what decides, after a whiles pirating, and sufficiently low standing, you'll get bounties put on you, players will start to form up in squads to hunt you, and you'll become one of the most sought-after players in the universe.

on the other hand, starting piracy can be hard, its about learning the other pirates, knowing whom to attack and not (hint, if they look like a christmastree in their charinfo, stay away. If they have the 500 pk badge, well... *cough* )

Has anyone experienced any gas nebulas in this game?

Mining is cool, but what about an option to collect gasious elements, or even capture odd space creatures!

I could be an Interstellar fur trader!
Feb 01, 2005 ctishman link
Yeah, stand behind an Itani for long enough, and you'll find all the gaseous nebulae you need... I'm pretty sure you can capture odd space creatures back there, too.

It's an interesting point though. Are there becoming too many pirates. At the moment there's only one active Pirate Guild, that I know of (Black Lance) but I have a hunch we raise enough ruckus as it stands.

For a while it looked like there was going to be wonderful fun between the Pirates and the Vipers (Anti Pirate Guild) but they've been very quiet as of late.

Basically if you want to become a "character" though, just start doing it. Other than bounty hunting I don't think there's any requirements to fulfill.
Feb 01, 2005 Borb II link
Yeah and us BL guys don't ever have that many active players on. I guess it's a good thing we're good at multi-tasking.

In all reality though us pirates are vary romanticized, I make maybe 100k-200k a day as a pirate and then i lose about 50k-150k a day due to deaths. You do the math us pirates really don't make much. Now you take a trader or a miner who in 2-3 hours can make an easy 2 mil with out one death, well...

Bottom line it ain't easy being mean. But it is fun...

Try things out first, becoming a pirate is one of those no going back things. So try it out last, you never know you may find some thing on the way that you like better.
Feb 01, 2005 softy2 link
Shouldn't this belong to the Roleplaying section?

Anyway, BL is not really a bunch of pirates all intend to kill and kill. We just have fun in the game our own way. Not all BL are active pirates too, LQI is not for example (she is the most patient member of the guild). Tramshed kills (well there is one that kills and kills), martin just kill annoying n00bs, Holden gets killed most of the time, Borb talks a lot, Shape actively pirates, Sebastian CTC for the sercos, Solution has not been seen for a while, Sputnik just stick his tongue out at everybody else.

So there.

Don't think the Vipers are giving up by any means, we may be sleeping now, but don't wake the dragon less your ready to play Black Lance'ers! :P
Feb 01, 2005 Borb II link
Oh we're ready any time. :p

lol @ softy2, Borb talk's alot thats great.

I almost always ask for money before I kill and I never kill if I get my money. But so few pay up. Soon my death count will be higher then that of Holden...

Yeah, being a pirate is just that. It's something about YOU, not something that you gain.

But, honestly, us pirates are getting a little bored. DAMNIT we need somethin to do.

I personally have NO idea how traders keep themselves interested. It makes it even stranger when a trader gets frustrated at being killed, I just think to myself, "Wait a min, isn't this the most excitement you've had on VO ALL DAY?! I'm giving CHASE here :))

If it takes as long to get another game like CTC as it takes to get Cap ships... there's gonna be a LOT of bored PvP'ers.

CTC was shiny, but it needs an upgrade. Its done out of necessity now, as the presence or absence of N3's can be a problem.
