widscreen version?

Feb 01, 2005 retromac link
I have a 17' widescreen Apple powerbook with a 1.5ghz g4, 1.5gb ram and a 128mb video card, running on a cable connection.

A couple of things i was wondering about:

Firstly, are you going to provide a widescreen option in the video settings? At this time i'm looking at a slightly stretched screen. It's ok, but seems odd.

Secondly, I have been experiencing lag when flying through asteriod fields and coming out of a jump. It's not very often (about every 20mins of play time or so), but it sure is distracting. It seems odd that this could even happen when I have only seen about 80 people max on here?

Thanks,
Drake Buckman

A) What is the LCD's native resolution?

B) What resolution is the game set to

C) It's probably FPS drop, not lag. This game is extremely lag resistant.

I have it set to 1440 x 900 normaly, game is set to 1440 x 900 - hence the stretching aspect.

I have read somewhere on here that the FPS will increase from 100 to 300 in the new Tiger OS.

Much as I wish that were the case, it is unlikely in the extreme. However, this is not to say you will see no benefit from the new drivers. Certain situations will almost certainly see improvements.

I can't wait till i can get my wirless network set up at home and run this game through my stereo!!

Does this use 5,1 surround?

oh, the hud can be rescaled to fit your resolution, try:
set rHUDxscale 1080
set rHUDyscale 675

or other, check that they have the right proportions ( 8 / 5 proportion, 1280, 800 might be another good number to try )

Yeah, there is no "aspect" option but you can always make it work by messing with variables. I would like to have an aspect option, though, since I have a 1280x1024 native LCD (it's 5:4, not 4:3, so it's slightly vertically stretched), and obviously to support 16:9.

The HUD's stretching can be altered by doing what Spider said. You can also try changing the field-of-view (/set fov 50 or whatever, 60 is the default and it's the vertical field-of-view so you might want to lower it to get a more reasonable horizontal FOV) but you'll edit the 'zoom' alias to change it for good.
