Valk obsolete?

Given that the Valk has less thrust and more mass than the centurions, I figure that on the next pass through the ships it will receive a thrust boost. Maybe to 250, 260 or so - enough that mounting a third weapon isn't a deathwish, but still slows you down enough to be balanced.

@ Softy2. Watch Osiris-X. that guy is a pain to fight against. He's using a technique similar to yours but it's been tweaked a bit.

Softy from page 1: "Also, since it is fatter than the cents, it does not turn as well as the new cent despite having the same mass. It is also fat."

I'm sorry, I just had to respond to this. I don't mean this as a flame or anything but this statement is entirely incorrect from a physics standpoint. When it comes to moment of inertia (the tendency of bodies to resist torque) a "fat" hockey-puck shaped object (like the valk) has a much lower moment of inertia than a rod shaped object (like the cent).

So, if the two ships have the same mass (and the same engine torque), the Valk should actually turn much quicker due to its shape.

Now I'm not pretending to have flown the new Valk, so I'm sure that softy knows what he's talking about. I'm just saying that whatever is causing the valk to have a slower turn rate, it sure as heck isn't its shape.

I have flown both, the valk handles much worse than the IBG. Its probably because the valk is wide and high while the IBG is only "long". In a dogfight with an IBG the valk has little hope of surviving.

I would also point out that the "feeling" of sluggishness, that many valk/prom pilots often feel, seems to be generally related to their ability to dodge shots.

It FEELS sluggish, cuz you have to move further to get out of the way.

As far as the mass distribution issue, I remember hearing some weirdness about where and how the torque is applied... but I dunno...

Is the valk shorter? if that's the case, it may be that if the torque is applied at the center, the moment of inertia could be larger.

I tried sunflares in a Valk. No go, although it was more me being rusty that anything really wrong with the valk. I tried sunflares in an IBG - very go :D

The 20 extra thrust seems to make all the difference...

I fly a Valk.

I worked my bot's off (pun intended) to level up to Valk level and now refuse to let go. Simply because it's not a common ship.

I refuse to sink back down to the Cent, wich I've never really liked anyhow, with their dual S ports.

My Valk is fat and heavy. But it's also armed with a tripple Gauss Mk2 config. It's done good thus far. I like it even more than a tripple Neut3 config.

This probalby explains why I still suck at PvP.

But some day, the gods might pimp it up to or near where it used to sit: right at the top of the light fighters where it belong.

You can pry this valk off my fingers when I /explode

I find it sad that the Valkyrie is no longer the fighter it was, because I have such good memories of it.

... ooohhh, those were the times..

3), well, put a very good pilot into a Prom. now what? how good do you have to be in _anything_ else to take him down? you have to be even better.

your first 2 points have some merit, but the 3rd one is... well, what did you expect?
cheers

my point was more that being very good isn't enough to take down a very good pilot in a Prom. there doesn't even seem to be any contest about it. you have to be a lot better and work a lot harder than the Prom-pilot. I was expecting a similarly good pilot in a good setup to be able to match the Prom, in effect getting half the kills or so.

Im sure the devs in all there wisdom will find a balance of nations that will suit most, but alas, you cant please all the people all the time, crist, its hard enough for these guys to please some of the people, but im sure they wont leave the valk *second* to the IBG/REV C - I can say i have fought a few of each in my prom, the valk makes a nice target, always has, it just maybe needs a lil boost in thrust, to give it that edge, but thats not for me to decide. Until the *balance* is declared found, you wont here me comment much on ships.

Keep the prom as it is, but boost the valkyr. As it is right now, even the border guard cent doesn't do to well agains the prom. If more secros start using the prom, itanti will get its butt kicked in ctc.

In response to Yoda:

"Until the *balance* is declared found, you wont here me comment much on ships."

I would think that much (if not all) of the balancing is due to player comments isn't it? I mean, we are the focus group for the game (and a very vocal one at that).
