KixKizzle: a 256 meg card is more than enough for VO right now. texture compression won't speed you up. Slightly tweaking the LOD settings will be the best speed booster I think. (if you want to keep the shader stuff)
Well i'm "trying" to install linux so maybe that will help. (linux ate my windows) :( :( :(
did it eat your windows or is there just not an entry for it in your bootloader? As long as you didnt overwrite your windows partition its still there.
:) O no... I overwrote the partition :P
raybondo: just to update you, I finally got around to trying VO again, and sure enough your fix worked. I can now enable texture compression (tc=1) in config.ini and have it work fine. Granted, some of the textures don't look great in the menus, but for the most part it isn't noticable in quality. However, I've been able to increase my resolution to 1280x1024, texture quality to high, keep glow on and STILL maintain a minimum of 20fps around stations. Much MUCH better.
For anybody running on an eMac or Mac Mini: I highly recommend turning on texture compression :) Thank you ray!!!!
Just one suggestion now, and its a tiny one: can you turn off the compression on the mouse cursor and the loading screen backdrops? Thanks :)

I have a emac! So, how would I go about turning on texture compression? (I know it's already posted but can I have it in laymans terms? I'd really like to be able to see all the nice graphics of vendetta.
Me points to page one of this thread and says stop being lazy macguy!!
I chaged the config.ini to have tc=1 but where is the compress option? Is it a button under the graphics or video option, cause I done see it.
Please note that with texture compression on, ship stripe colors and background stars (Very and Extremely High only) are broken. At least, they are here.
macguy, that is the option to turn texture compression on =op
I figured that when the other stuff looked all crappy(mentioned ealier in the thread). Ya, it helps my frame rate somewhat, it allowed me to have shaders and full screen glow on(which i love by the way). But the ships models in the buy/select ship menu looked like CRAP. Oh well, maybe the graphics rendering will be improved some later time eh? What ever, vendetta still kicks butt.
Hmm, the mouse cursor is supposed to not be compressed but I haven't looked at it in a while.
As for the ship color problems with tc on, having not looked at it, maybe it's because the texture compression doesn't properly handle the alpha channel in the texture, causing the color not to show through in the right places.
And as for the tc setting, there is no menu setting for it (yet). You have to edit the config.ini file to change it at this time.

Ok, there's a tc setting now.
mouse cursors and loading screens and HUD elements and other interface elements and a few other things are never compressed now, due to the severe quality degredation of those textures.
