The graphics in VO seem to appear to be much better, though they already have there (jumpgate) cap ships and carriers working. Also the artisict look of the ships in JG looks much better then VO. If only VO had more employees.
i say VO looks much better. Ships are more real looking, everything is more real looking and last but certainly not least, it works on my mac!
the MIS group, is this a class project? VO reminds me a lot of privateer, a classic. But you need to take the good from games and expand on them, seems like what JOSSH did. Where is the marketing for VO? I read about them at IGN, and the reviews are good at EB Games, but I havent seen much more then that.
Erm, Jumpgate's star rose around '03 and is now in decline. They still have some users playing, but it's been largely abandoned, unfortunately.
graphic and design is far better on VO.
but a game is not based on the graphic only.
game play > graphic.
but a game is not based on the graphic only.
game play > graphic.
The devs are already well aware of Jumpgate and the other games in the genre (Eve, AoA and EnB, to name a few). It's all very well to get ideas of what does or does not work in other games, but VO strives to be different from the rest of the pack. People post all the time about how Vendetta reminds them of this game or that, but what are they actually playing?
The marketing is minimal at this stage because there is a lot more to be added to Vendetta before it has mass appeal. Vendetta's not done yet, and attracting in droves of new people who will be annoyed that it is not a finished product is a poor use of one's advertising dollar.

It looks very Star Trek TNG-ish.
Donno. Might actually preffer VO. And I dont have time toi level up in another universe. I'm all with VO devs right now. Go devs go!

Yah, also, Jumpgate doesn't have the multiplatform support.
Looks like an advert for Jumpgate if you ask me (which you didn't).
Will this end up in Off Topic or just plain locked? Only FM knows for sure.

Meh. Jumpgate's boring and hurts my eyes to look at. It's boring because everything goes too fast.
bah,Ive played Jumpgate for years now. Still have my account there. There are many things I like about Vendetta over Jumpgate and many things I like about Jumpgate over Vendetta.
As of now I plan on quitting neither one.
The FM is correct, this isnt Jumpgate and doesnt want to be jumpgate. Jumpgate has its problems and budget woes just like this game. Its just been around longer. It is a good game, just not this game.

VO has one huge advantage over Jumpgate, it isn't windows only.
Hear Hear!
don't know the stats, but it wouldn't surprise me if 50% of the players here use non-windoze systems. We have many Macs and a good amount of Linux players, no doubt that the multi-platform support is a great advantage for VO.
Jumpgate had it's day. Upwards of 500 players on at peak times, fleet battles involving over 100 pilots, and ISU ruled unregulated space. Those were the days......
However that was then, and this is now. VO isn't Jumpgate and never will be. Let's concentrate on making VO a great game now, and let the past be the past. Together we can make it happen here and now.
Cheers!

Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.

anyone ever heard of parsec? http://www.parsec.org
This could have allso been like VO

LoL I thought you meant Parsec,
"Good Shot, Pilot!"
For the Ti 99/4a.

In many ways this game was like Vendetta.
Indeed, this game had evil alien robot ships, you had to shoot.
They would change appearance as you shot them, indicating that they were more damaged. It had asteroid belts you had to fly through. It also had multiplatform support: you could use a beige Ti 99/4a or a silver one. The higher level you got, the more difficult enemies you would face. It had realistic physics; you could go backwards or forwards using your thruster jet and by 'coasting' your ship. It had enemies that could ram you too. I am surprised TI did not sue Guild Software for plagiarism.
But I have to say Parsec was more advanced or varied than Vendetta in some respects:
-It had speech synthesis, with a voice that would tell you things, like 'good shot, pilot'
-It had planetary landscape, complete with twinkling stars.
-The asteroids were actually dangerous, and it was a challenge to fly through the belt.
-Different bots had much different AI and required a whole different strategy to defeat. In VO you just backroll, and even 4 queens and all their escorts cannot hit you.
-It had 'spaceports' with lots of ships lined up like on a runway.
-The 'external view' was usable: you could actually fly with it.
-It had a chart of the XP given for each enemy printed in the game manual
-There was a 'refueling tunnel' in the ground that you had to fly through, which required quite bit of skill.
-Death actually meant something. You could get new ships, but once you were out of ships, that was it. So long turkey.
-There was a certain kind of enemy that could evade your sensors, so you wouldn't know where it was until the last second.
-The enemy could fire torpedos, not just guns like in VO.
-Firing too often would cause your ship to overheat and explode
-It had an actual laser weapon, which did not have a projectile nature, and was not limited by speed. But you had to be very good at aiming it.
-It had asteroids that you could blow up.
-And best of all, it had asteroids in designer colors.

Yes, Parsec. The game that died sometime around late 2001. I played the LAN-Test- it's not that exciting.
