The UFO Border Guardian....with very short legs.

I absolutely adore the IBG....except for its very very short legs.

It is a joy to fly and can outturn everything in the game. But it is not too overpowered since it's armor is thin and its cruise speed of 55m/s means that other fighters will be running rings around it. It take a lot of skill to use its superior turning rate to overcome its slower speed and that's great.

The only problem I see now is that it is too short legged : 70/s turbo drain means that it'll have trouble getting anywhere in a big fight battlefield. It's 55m/s cruise speed just compounds this problem : the IBG has to turbo to keep up with the rest of the fighter field. And in a duel, the opposing fighter essentially have the initiative to pick and choose when contact is made.

I tried to do CTC with it, but found that in CTC battles it cannot get around quickly enough (as you all know CTC is now a divebombing affair : get in, shoot convoy, get out) so it can't attack or defend well.

It can't hunt anything, since everything else is just faster than it is, save the Corvus Vulture which is even short-legged with its 90/s drain. So it is essentially useless except as a dueling machine, where it is a superb ship.

The fact that it is not seen very often (you see centIII and its infiniteboost) despite being such a great 1-1 ship tells you that it is not a practical ship to fly in to do things like CTC or player hunting.

My suggestion is to reduce the drain to 60/s or 65/s, like the IDF. It already has 2 hits against it : thin armor and 55 m/s cruise speed, i think the 3rd hit of high 70/s drain rate just a bit too much.

Having said all that, i think I am gonna dump the valk and get on the IBG anyway. It's so sweeeeeet to fly.

me would like to see an interceptor with 5k hull, 90 mph , no weaponports boost of 250 and 4 cu as cargo :D, drain of 70

would be so fun to fly with :D

Oh yes, the same for the Serco vulture guardian, it really should have 55e/s drain.... * Grin*

what would you guys think of a ship like the prometheus with a cruise of around 130m/s and a turbo of 200/ms with about a 120e drain? (those of you who know the stats better than I, please elaborate on a balanced setup like this)

unfortunately wouldn't help much due to the prometheus -horrid- handling and acceleration. :/

When I read the topics title, I thought you were referring to the fact that bunchies have short legs...

genka shhhhhhhh... bunchies are sensitive about their small stature.

The low manuvering speed makes this ship useless for botting. I used to be able to take out all kinds of Protus with it. Now I get owned in short order if I try botting Protus.

Can't use it for hunting NPC Traders anymore, because by the time I catch them, the turbo has used up so much energy that I can't fire my weapons.

I guess it has been reduced to a dueling only ship. I liked it much better the old way.

The Itani Border Guardian also has short legs. While an Mk3 has infinite boost.

The ship changes are odd I think (don't get me started on the Valk--I now see no reasons to push my 8th level).
