Some VO Advertising and Support

Well in an effort to get the word out more about VO I took the liberty of making a link to the site on GUComics Forums today as well as a few other posts. In any case, if you have not seen there comics before they are hilarious! http://www.gucomics.com. To give others the feeling that this game is played, it would be cool if others posted to http://forums.gucomics.com/viewtopic.php?t=5528 with there char name, info, etc. This is good for us and for others to see that the game is viable and worth taking a look at. Maybe even snag a few new users. Either way, you get to find out what pilot I am so you know who to shoot down next time you see me fly past you with a load of cargo. =)~

What VO needs is a review in a gaming magizine with a demo of the game of the cover CD. Atm the games just to quiet to be a 'MMORPG', its more a 'MORPG' atm, I logged in earlier to see only 28 people online, this was 10 minutes after logging out of Eve which had almost 10,000 people online.

Indeed. An article in PC Gamer would get a *ton* of new people.

i dont know if its ready for such an influx of players yet...also bear in mind that players in eve usually have more than one account (11 is the highest i've heard of), and it has the eye candy...

I think its a case of 'build it and they will come' rather than spending a load of cash on advertising that might not create many long term accounts...but that's just my opinion.

I don't know if they'd give the information out, but i'd be interested to see whether current subscriber levels are (roughly) in keeping with what the devs predicted/want...

The game is unpolished and lacking in content. They know that if they advertise massively people will come, play their 8 hour trials, then start complaining about how things are boring and lackluster and leave.

I figure they'll start advertising in February or March, once there's more variety to the missions and things like the cap ship battle are in place. The game has great potential, but few people are going to buy potential. They want something NOW, and if you're honest with yourself you know that Vendetta as it stands won't deliver to the majority of people. It may in the future, and that's when the devs will want us to start advertising.

I started looking around after I saw this thread and I found a lot of sites that list or promote VO. The problem is that the user reviews for the game are not that good. Many times I saw comments like "OK", I flew around and killed some bots, now what?"

My guess is that VO is attracting a good number of prospective users, but may not be able to lure then to try it or keep them after the trial.

I like VO, but it is going to be a tough decision when it comes time to renew my subscription. IMHO, VO requires me to do too much work just to play a game. In other words I have to go out of my way to figure out how to do things. And a game that requires a mentor is just not user friendly enough.

Yes, VO has tons of potential, but it has a lot of work to do before it is ready for prime time. The real problem is, assuming it does get better, how are you going to get all those people back to take a second look?

Just my 2 cents.

Objectifier has just nailed the problem pretty much on the head.

The game is unfinished. As a result it has many rough edges, and while it will attract a lot of interest, it wont hold that interest for long.

On that note, please allow the developers to handle thier own publicity, they have a better idea what they are able to handle and what they need. while this may be the first game they have created as guildsoftware, all of them are experienced in the industry.

Hmmm, i have been doing a small amount of advertising myself, but mainly to friends / online aquantences, im proud to say at least a few signed up in alpha/beta and are still here now, but now its no longer a test, i kind of agree with spellcast - sure, tell all your friends, but hold off on the big time till things are 100%, right now they are pretty close, and getting closer every update... ...but when you tell your friends do what i do, say that this is a game by people who care about this game, not the 100's of titles they already have//... <--- and the linux/mac thing rules i mean, apart from torcs, armagetron + ut series, what other good games are there for linux (dont say nethack, this one i know about =)

I'd just like to make the point that I walked into an EBGames this evening. First thing I did was look on the shelves for VO. Found nothing.

Asked a clerk. Conversation ran something like this:

<Me> Excuse me, do you have the game Vendetta Online in stock? Their site says you are one of the stores who does.
<Clerk> Vendetta Online? No, sorry, I don't think we do. When did it come out?
<Me> November 1st.
<Clerk> What kind of game is it?
<Me> An MMORPG.
<Clerk> Well, I've never heard of it. You might be able to buy it online.
<Me> I was going to, but then it took Gamestop a month to mail out the preorders for all the alpha and beta testers, so I decided to do it the supposedly easy way.
<Clerk> Well, I'm afraid we don't carry it. I don't know if it will be coming in on our next shipment. Sorry about that, sir.
<Me> That's okay. Thanks.

...If there's *one* thing SF1 or Guild needs to do over the holiday, it's get this game shipped out to vendors. How are people supposed to hear about it if they don't visit the places it's advertised? Word of mouth can be surprisingly useless at attracting large crowds when those crowds have nothing to do with the group spreading the Word.

Yeah, I have a bunch of EV friends, including my brother, and they're always very happy to see a game like this.

But that's all we can really do until there is a major completed project, otherwise there will be a short surge in players, followed by none.

I'M staying because of the potential, but not everyone will.

I mostly play at the "cyber cafe" (I'm the only guy that ever uses it) we have where I work. (I play in my off time, for the most part...) I get people all the time saying: "That looks like the same thing you were playing yesterday." Or "Wow, you've been playing all day long" But some times I'll get a gammer say "Wow, what is that looks cool." And with it being Christmas time I've even had people ask what I was playing and if they thought their [insert family member] would like it. So I get to advertise allot. Unfortunately I have died to bots a few time thanks to some rude people...

Shape: I know the alot EVers love this game. That how I found out about it from EV-Nova.net. 3D Nova they said, and you know what? I think they were right. This game is all EVN was in our best dreams, just better.

"This game is all EVN was in our best dreams, just better."

Hmmm... Actually, I'm going to have to disagree with that. The EVN plotlines (at least, the Polaris and Vell-os ones) were absolutely *beautiful*. Vendetta doesn't have any plotline to speak of (note: backstory != plotline).
Dec 20, 2004 Borb II link
Well ok I'll give you that, besides the back story VO has no real plot line. I my self would like to see more decs for planets, ships, and weapons.

Though I don't know where you get the Polaris plot line being great... ;)
Dec 20, 2004 Tyrdium link
Well, it's been a while since I played, but the part near the end (where you land on the memorial planet) was just... wow...
Dec 20, 2004 Poseidon link
Problem with plotline is that either you make it single/small group activity, or push it on everyone, and there are usually enough people who could care less for plot line at that particlar time. It is, however, nessesary if only to pass the time in game. After you kill enough bots, traded, PvPed, ran a bunch of missions.. what is there to do?
