Bounty

Dec 16, 2004 andreas link
When I logged on today, I was greeted with a message that the Serco Dominion placed a 1235291c bounty on my head. While it is true that I kill lots of Serco, I
- kill them in gray space (unmonitored),
- kill only high level players, no noobs, and certainly no busses,
- kill a lot of CTCs, but again only in gray space,
- didn't get the bounty for doing something but while I was logged off,
- already had a bounty last week.

What exactly did I do that triggered the bounty? Why was it placed on my head in absentia? Could we please get a concret specification what triggers bounties? Please?

oh, its much more fun when you don't know, then we have something to figure out, and general "bad" behaviour gets a little more edgy.

Nice bounty btw, I think Icarus will be miffed. * grin *

Hmmm, we should know why though...

Because while it may be true than andreas kills serco in grey space, i have been trying to trigger a bounty by killing UIT in UIT space, if i would have known i could do it in grey space, i would have just gone there.

hmmmm, i wonder if i will end up with a similar bounty when i log on andreas.

Coult our experementing last week be catching up with us?

DAMN i'm at work, on a 56k, and the game isnt installed here. wont be able to check for about 10 hours. :P

Somewhat similar to this...

On my Char Info screen, it says "You got away from 1 bounty hunter trying to get the current bounties on your head and you killed 1 bounty hunter in all."

Now, I'm in a similar situation to andreas, I can't think of anything since the bounty hunter patch came out that would have earned me a bounty - in fact, I really haven't been on very much (stupid work schedule). Also, I have never received any messages that anyone has placed a bounty on me, which andreas said he did receive a message about. Another odd thing is, although I guess it could just be my bad memory, I don't think I've had any player kills since the patch came out (although I have died to players at least once), so I don't think I've actually killed a bounty hunter... anyway, I think it's kinda weird.

"You got away from 1 bounty hunter trying to get the current bounties on your head and you killed 1 bounty hunter in all."

Thats a known bug. It adds that message whenever you kill someone who is a registered bounty hunter, even if you have no bounty on you.

Ah... I guess I have killed somebody, then.
/me scratches his head trying to think who he's killed since the patch.

hmm, andreas, I think its the CtC kills. I just picked up a 900k bounty last night when i killed a convoy transport in an unmonitored sector. Not sure why your kicked in when you were offline tho.

So let me get this straight: if I kill a Serco transport in unmonitored space, I get a bounty. If a Serco kills an Itani transport in Itani space, he gets nothing, because he has +800 Itani standing to get his IDF valk? And I can't stop him either, because I would become KOS with Itani myself? Excellent. Great. Really.

If you kill somebody in grey space, nobody cares.

If you kill someone in faction space <-- depends on standing....

makes pure sense to me...

However, killing an automated transport not the same? makes not 1 bit of sense,,,...

1.) The convoys give a small rep loss anywhere, and its not just 1 CtC transport, its probably a threshold of some sort.

2.) I thought the devs fixed it so killing a convoy transport in its nation space gives you the same -1000 reputation as killing an admired player there

Andreas what you are basically saying is that you want to know the charges against you.

I find it rather odd, since the United States of America does not even grant this right to its own citizens after 9/11. But you want this right in cyberspace, from an enemy nation, whom you admit attacking on numerous occasions.

I for one think if anyone is 'punished' by an organization, the organization should have to state the reason for punishment, and evidence. But I find it amusing that people are beginning to demand this right, in cyberspace. I wonder how many of the people here, who are probably Bush voters, want this 'right' for themselves in cyberspace, but don't want it for others in the real world?

Uh... this is a game, not the real world. Notice how pissed off the world is about that lack of rights for detainees? The devs have to make decisions on how to best keep their playerbase happy, not on how to best pull some twisted poetic justice on people who are probably not even deserving of it.

You know, starfisher, thats the funny thing.

Politicians are supposed to have to make decisions on how best to keep their people happy.

If people really want for the government to state a reason when they are punished by it... then the politicians should be doing this.

Are you trying to tell me that Vendetta has a better democracy than real life? Even though we can't "vote out" the devs?
Dec 19, 2004 Spellcast link
can we take the political discussion to another forum, please.

This thread isnt about politics, its about the bounty system of vendetta.

No, what I am trying to say is that with every patch the game is imposing harsher and harsher penalties for defending convoys. The rational for this is beyond my comprehension. On a positive note, due to the surplus system nobody really plays CTC any more (its pointless to go up against +600 surplus), so I guess it doesn't matter anyway. Go figure.
