at the moment thats correct tramshed, but if the engines get reblanaced, then the heavier ships will have the gauss and L-port weapons again for about the same relative mass. Should make things interesting.
Lets be careful though, so many ideas have been suggested for making heavy ships good, that I'm beginning to wonder if it will just leave the valk behind. Remember, we want to balance the 2, not have a period of attrition for the lack of a decent serco top special. (Tried out the SGV today, it flies like a bloody dream, SOO much better than the IBG, don't know what you guys are complaining about)
The Valk. They're complaining about the Valk. The thing that has more health, lower mass and more small weapons slots than anything but the hornet.
Starfisher: uh.... do you have your ships confused? I can't figure out your post. How does the Vulture have more health, less mass, and more small weapons than the Valkyrie?
oh yeah, the thing that has more health (but gets hit twice as much, trust me, when flying your SGV I tagged valks at least 4 times every time I lined up), lower mass (can still be completely outmaneuvered by an intelligent pilot), and more weapons(adding more doesn't make hitting a vult that much easier)
I am considering playing serco a lot more, strictly on the basis of the fact that your average serco pilot (non-high level) has access to a seriously busty ship. The SGV can wade into a group of several fighters and recieve minimal damage while taking out a good number of ships.
The valk, doing the same thing, has issues. A valk can't easily dogfight 4 people at once, it has to move in and out of the battle, being conscious of never getting in too deep.
Yeah, the serco need a special high level ship, but the itani high level ship is not that bad balance-wise.
Mass:
look, have you ever fought a valk that weighed as much as a vult?
It gets destroyed, SO quickly, owing to the fact that every shot the vult gets off, hits. So increasing mass, bad idea.
It's mass lets it do very well on the outside of a battle. But its size makes it difficult inside of one.
Armor:
I said it earlier, but let me repeat. When you hit a valk, you do
NOT generally hit it just once. I generally get 2 to 3 sets of neut III's on her chest each time I drop them. This puts the "effective" armor of the valk, at about a 3rd of what the vult is , considering that a vult gets hit far less often, and WHEN it does, it rarely involves many hits. (I would also like to add, that the valk that most good itani pilots fly in the CTC is the RUNE, which has a very marginal 500 more hull points than your SGV)
Weapons:
Okay, its the itani bloody special, give it SOMETHING.

The valk's not bugged!
The community is! Weee!

oops. meant the hornet. edited... sorry :/
What about the UIT?!? It's supposed to be the "home faction of the pirates" and there is no ship close to the Valkirie, and AFAIK, the only thing that comes close (but still inferior) to the Serco Vult is the Corvus Vult, which I've never seen, as it takes weeks to get the necessary skill and reputation.
You have the Marauder. Which has the same number of weapon ports, and while it isn't as light or as fast, it holds a buttload of cargo, making it by far the fastest cargo ship in the game. On top of that, since the UIT start out with neutral reputation with both the Itani and Serco, it's relatively easy for the UIT to get a Valk. Just do your Adv combat mission botting in Itani space and you'll easily have the standing required by the time you reach combat 8. The serco can do that too, but they have to go twice as far in terms of standing, and have to avoid all those pesky def bots.
The marauder is a thoroughly useful ship when empty, and is actually far better suited for piracy than either of the other ships are.
The valk is totally uber, but can't pull cargo out.
The prom can't do anything.
The serco vult can fight, but with a measly 2 cu cargo?
The Warthog, of which UIT have a special version, is one of the best piracy ships in the game. Small enough to fight, can pack a good weaponry (My old fave of Jackhammer+Gauss is useless currently, but thats a different thread) and can pull quite some cargo out.
The Marauder is light, nimble and well armed, utterly lethal in the right hands (Hi Mick!), and can pull out a significiant chunk of cargo away from a site.
So, shove that "UIT is handicapped" somewhere. If you want to pirate, you should be able to take the cargo too.
