It's from the television show "The Price is Right". To get into the "good" games, contestants have to bid on certain items. The person who is the closest without going over wins. So, if you're the last one to bid and you think everyone else is over, you will bid $1 and win. The host's name is Bob Barker. Thus: "One dollar, Bob".

So... you thought it was less than 9 MiB? And I still don't see how it's very funny, but oh well.

I hope noone minds me hijacking this thread to make a suggestion, I was wondering if 'astro-navigation maps' (or even partial maps) of sectors could be cached client side on a semi-permanent to permanent basis after the player had 'explored' them. The purpose of this would be to allow players to view a sector that they had previously visited 'in minature' from the navigation console. That in itself doesn't sound so cool, but if you could also cache information about ores when you scan a roid and make this displayable...

Since the entire position database is under 100mb, I'm thinking that this might actually be practical.

1. I do mind you hijacking this thread. Start your own thread, you thread stealer!

2. An automap of some kind would be nice, but it has many problems. They may, or may not, have asteroids be 'depletable'. The temperatures are constantly being altered by other players. And so your 'mini map' would be in many ways useless. But most importantly, it destroys my plans to get filthy rich by selling 'vendetta maps' on ebay.

Ok, ok. Put down the nuetron blaster. I know where I'm not wanted.

No, your map would just be 'outdated' and not 'useless'. Planning to go mine that 100% Xith ore 'roid you found and then discovering that someone had heated it up to 45000K just for the fun of it would be part of the game.

And the idea was not to let you sell maps on ebay, but to sell (or buy) maps _in the game_.
