RMI due leveling through combat missions

Nov 23, 2004 randomize link
My wrist started hurting about two weeks ago, I even thought of going to hospital. i am lazy, so i just thought i'll see if it gets any worse and only then I'll go. i had a week off work because of hari raya holidays and had other things to do than play computer games (writing a piece of software). Anyhow, my pain has disappeared by the end of the break. I've tracked the problem down to trying to level.

A bit of background - I've been using computers since 1992, working in front of a monitor for more than 12 hours each day. never had a problem with RMI, even though, like I said, I operate mouse and keyboard for last 10 years (i didn't have a mouse in 1992). I never had this problem in Vendetta beta or alpha. Actually, I don't have it when trading neither.

I am very concerned about this, I mean health is more important than levels of course. I didn't spend 3 days leveling either, I've been online only 18 hours all up.

I understand that new missions will come out that will, somehow, allow you to level without doing a lot of repetitive stuff, so my question is when? and can my account be paused until then, because I don't want to waste my online time when I cannot physically play the treadmill game.

(I'm still level 4 combat).

I thought about posting it under Bugs, but feel that people would think I am joking. I am not.

So, basically you are saying it's not possible that over time this has built up, and participating in something that requires lots of wrist activity didn't just set it off?

BTW, sitting around 12 hours doesn't mean you use your wrist a lot. I can be on the internet all day and hardly ever use the mouse. Or you use it to click a few times then write or read, while your wrist breaks.

use a joystick, yo!

I have to agree with randomize on this one, I don't need to level anymore, which is great, cuz killing 200 bots does begin to hurt.

I don't believe I have a repetitive stress injury, but it certainly does begin to mess with my hands. Which isn't fun

I would like to add that a joystick, imo, gives me less control. I far prefer usin my keyboard and mouse. Its the strafing that's the issue for me.

2Shapenaji, thank you, my goal is (was) to reach Valk levels, which is notoriously lengthy and repetitive process.

2Dagnarille, yes, i am saying that it is not possible that this RMI is triggered by anything but Vendetta, I am sorry to say. I played all kinds of games in the past and it never was a problem. And I use mouse a lot. As a matter of fact, I've also played a number of games for extended periods of time (beats my 18 hours with vendetta at least two/three fold). Games that require a lot of mouse movements, like ET, Q3A, CS and other FPS.

Thing is, I still play those abovementioned games and don't get this pain. Pain went away and I don't want it to come back.

You need to vary what you do, doing any single activity for more than a few hours can't be good, especially if it is working heavily on one joint.

yeah id say just take a break for a bit every hour or so. I started to do this when my mother came up to me after 3 hours of playing vendetta and realized my eyes were almost completly red. So every hour i just go and use the bathroom and get a drink or something. maybe it'll do the same for ur wrist. just take a reak every hour

a RMI takes far more than 18 hours to develop. it is possible that botting is aggrivating the condition that has developed over the years and causing you to notice it due to the constant use of that one series of joints over a short time, but if anyone takes you seriously and thinks that its caused only by vendetta, its because they are gullible.

Incidentally, If you really do feel that vendetta is the cause of your problem, then stop playing, dont whine about it. seriously this is by far the most rediculous post i've seen yet. Its a game. You choose to play. The devs are working on content as fast as they can, and if anyone should be complaining of RMI's its them from typing in all the code they do on a daily basis.

mm randomize. get better posture and a kinesis keyboard. not playing vendetta will probably not solve your problem, because I bet you do extensive coding ;)...

and playing vendetta requires much less typing than coding =)

I completely agree with Spellcast. I suppose we put those warning signs on everything for a reason.

BTW Take up smoking. Very few smokers get RMI/RSI/OOS/whatever-you-want-to-call-it because they are always getting up and taking a break every few hours...

My point exactly Spellcast, just much better worded, as usual. Darn Serco and their words.

Spellcast, perhaps you have not heard my message properly. I gather that when you say "Incidentally, If you really do feel that vendetta is the cause of your problem, then stop playing, dont whine about it.".

Here's what I said above:

"I understand that new missions will come out that will, somehow, allow you to level without doing a lot of repetitive stuff, so my question is when? and can my account be paused until then, because I don't want to waste my online time when I cannot physically play the treadmill game."

Also, I understand perfectly well that vendetta is not the only reason for this condition, but GAINING COMBAT XP IN VENDETTA is definitely a catalyst. And definitely only latest incarnation, because I've spent 10 fold if not more time IN VENDETTA since 2003-05-01 01:54:38

Now, question to devs is, will I be able to pause my account until different ways of achieving combat XP are possible?

And I love vendetta just as much as you, i am by no means new to this game and it upsets me greatly that I am unable to play MY game. Your comment is insulting to me, Spellcast, because I don't want to stop playing, because I have participated in alpha and beta testing from wayback and have paid for this released game. My comments WERE NOT made to give vendetta bad name, merely description of my problem and request to devs to help me with it.

> seriously this is by far the most rediculous post i've seen yet.

Thank you for compassion and understanding. Have a pleasant day.
