Pay by Cash is way to expensive.
They charge 3 to 5 extra USD for collecting the money. So 5$ add on 159.99 is 3.12% and not really a problem. Same charge on 89.99 is 5.55% and upper limit imho. Should be enough fee for the work they have to do (gathering the money and sending it to Guild).
But 5$ on 48.99 for a half year is allready 10.2%, 4$ on 26.99$ is 14.82% and 3$ on 9.99$ is 30.03% !!!!
Since I'm not able or willing to pay a full year (or two), this way of payment will be painment. 10 to 30 percent extra fee is much to much. Is it that harder to transfer small amounts than higher ones?
PLEASE Guild! Dont let this be the last and only solution. Isn't there a way to pay directly to you, by PayPal for example?
Pay by Cash will bleeding me, the one way (pay monthly or for three month, the extra charge makes it to expensive) or the other (pay for 12 or 24 month, which i can not afford).
Hopefully, Chris

the short answer is Pay By Cash offers customer service and fraud protection. I checked and other games charge for using alternate forms of payment. (non-creditcard)

I've done a fair amount of payment processing - there's, just as sarahanne says, a very good reason for why it's expensive. First off, the basic processing fee will be 3'ish percent no matter how you cut it, no matter what method you use. Any collaterator (such as PayByCach) will add an overhead to this for sure - customer support for fifty-eleven platforms isn't cheap. Technical maintenance (rest assured at least one of them is planning on redoing their API at any given time) is a bit nasty as well.
That said, I don't think the fraud risk is a huge one for Guild / Vendetta, since no merchandise is actually shipped. It makes little sense trying to rip off someone who can just disable your account faster than you can say 'wire fraud' and in the case of paypal, the payment procedure is pretty straightforward / not very user error prone.
That said (II), if it's between $2 cheaper processing and more stuff in the game, I know what I'd be asking santa for.

The issue, Kriss, isn't really one of having individual accounts that make fraudulent payments and then are locked out in short order. That can obviously be solved with the account system, as you describe. The issue is chargebacks. From my understanding, the limits of contesting charges with PayPal are somewhat of a grey area, and have been problematic for some merchants. In some cases it may be possible for someone to pay for an entire year of gameplay, play for that year, and then contest the charges and have them negated from our account. Kind of a bizarre concept, given the length of time, and one that's a bit worrysome to me. Then there's also PayPal's history of abruptly freezing a merchant's PayPal assets if any incoming charges prove fraudulent, and being very slow to respond to inquiries. PayByCash has a pretty solid direct relationship with PayPal, and moves a lot of money through them, so I'd just as soon let them deal with any potential problems that crop up.
On the one hand, it's an attempt to protect us from fraud, and on another hand, it's an attempt to keep us from spending time dealing with PayPal support issues, so we can instead spend it making the game better. The comparative price is expensive, ($9.99 vs $12.99), but I figured people would be more likely to purchase larger blocks of time. Even the 6-month purchase time is still a relatively good deal compared to $60 (6 months at $10 per month).
If we get enough demand, and things go smoothly, we'll lookat setting up a direct PayPal system. It's not a big deal to integrate. I just.. well.. I want to work on designing the game as much as possible, and not on responding to billing issues :). I don't want to charge anyone any more than our base price.. but the services provided by PayByCash do have value.
