Official explanation for death/respawn?
Interesting to note that we can die in game virtually as many times as we want with few adverse effects besides loss of credits. I was just curious as to what the official explanation for respawning is, or if it's something just to be taken for granted.
Are there cloning facilities in each station? Are we somehow reincarnated after we die? Are we actually just AI's that can replicate infinitely? Is this universe even real? Are we all in the matrix? heh heh j/k
At any rate, I couldn't find anything in the backstory that would explain re-spawning, so I was wondering if one of the devs would care to enlighten us.

Ooh, realism and games.. I'll give this a shot.
Gameplay != Story. It'd be a very bad game if you had to work for days every time you got shot to pieces just to get your old kit back. Imagine a very small, fast and invisible rescue pod if makes you happier..

Or perhaps there's some kind of emergency teleport system that recalls you back to your home station at the instant of the explosion.
I've rationalized it as each ship containing a PTD (Personal Teleportation Device) that is tuned to a receiving pod in your home station. When you change home stations, part of the procedure mandates the creation of a new tuning to a pod in that station. At the milisecond before your ship explodes, the teleportation sequence is automatically activated, sending you back to your home station where you purchase a new ship or select one that you already own.
If the "official" explaination explains this differently, I will evaluate it and decide if my rationalization needs to be altered.

an "escape pod" could be introduced, of various costs, weights, capacities.
if your ship has it, you get to escape to nearest station, alone, with the money, with some cargo, or other options dep on device class.
(original ideea from old Elite Spectrum game) Long live the Elite Guild :)

its really simple actually how it happens....
When you die, you are ejected into space. Then a big uberly garbage truck from obviously god aka a1k0n appears and drags your sorry ass back to the station. Which then I tell the station's crew about the ship you just lost in which they give you the option to buy it back all nicely configured.
