Mysterious e-mail from Guild
I got an attachment called "price.cpl" in my e-mail from Guild Software. Whatever it is it cannot be opened on the Mac. Can someone fill me in on what this is? Just curious.
Hi,
I deleted my post about that ... reading the news might help ... ;)

Ayup, I got that, too. It went straight Thunderbird's spam folder. :P
rofl
Ooops. Oh well. It doesn't run in OS X so no problem. Whew, glad I don't have Windows.
Ahh... and I don't think a lot of people visit the news section of this website that often, so it might be a good idea to e-mail a second message (AFTER the virus has been dealt with of course) stating what happened. I never would've thought that Guild Software specifically would've been afflicted by a virus, considering how the mailing list is rarely used.

(ot) you going to be playing post-release khral?
Neither did it on my Linux box :P
And flagging the message as spam may not have been a good idea. The thing came over the GS anouncement mailinglist. Now all anouncements might be treated as spam.

If anyone missed it:

In other news, a virus from a host in poland managed to exploit one of our old user-contact email lists. The list was immediately disabled, but many messages had already been sent. Do not open any message attachments called "price.cpl" (or, for that matter, any other attachments, unless you expected to receive them). We apologize for any inconvenience, and will take greater care to secure our mailing lists in the future.

No, AlienB. Partially because of cost issues and partially because of time. I've already taken Vendetta and IRC off my hard drive. It was fun while it lasted. I'm going to miss killing Itani scum and getting rocket rammed.
