Poll: Ion-Storms + PvP

Oct 26, 2004 andreas link
This is a simple poll. Please indicate how often you tried to get some PvP by sitting in an ion storm and how often it worked.

Here we go:

Total time I sat in storms: about 10 hours total
Number of players encountered: 5
Got closer than 1000m: 1
Number of kills: 0

Hour spent sitting: 0
Number of players encountered: 1 (I was chasing him and we both hit the storm)
Got closer than 1000m: 1
Kills: 0

He killed me though, in the storm, before either of us realized homers were so unbalanced and I stopped pirating.

I don't "camp" in storms.
I have never encountered anyone doing so.

I would like to discourage FPS terms for this. The storms serve several purposes, one being giving an opportunity (perhaps slim) for a little PvP or piracy, which IS a valid part of Vendetta.

I have not tried to use this tactic, but I certainly don't condemn it.

Lots of storms, Seldom encounter other players, and I will not hesitate to run up and serve a salve of jackhammers on an unsuspecting victim. ;)

Though truthfully, storms are mostly good when I'm actually -hunting- somone and they get caught. I've used it ~5-10 times to find somone who's escaped, by going around it and waiting on the other side ;)

I have not bothered to sit in wait within a storm sector, but I end up getting caught in one while chasing others, and sometimes I see someone jump in while I'm negotiating it. I can't remember ever killing someone in a storm sector though. Two reasons; 1) If chasing its the same problem as any other sector (they just infi-boost away), and coupled with loading times I can never catch up. 2) People seem to have different exit points.

I'm not even going to mention that the number of storms is still too high (given that they seem to serve very little purpose other than annoying people), or that a Ragnorak loaded with weaps can still easily outrun a Vulture through a sector.... (Doh! did i just mention these things again!) ;-)

I got attacked by another player in a storm once. Once.

I've chased maybe 4 people into a storm, caught 0.

Hmm, like Icarus says, if storms only had one exit point it might be possible but as it stands it's no different than chasing in a non storm sector except when they get to a space where they can jump you will prolly still be 8000m from your exit so it's even worse.

1 exit point would make storm sectors simular to 3.x sectors where there were limmited exit points out of a sector and PvP worked a bit smoother.

Storm sectors only have one exit point.

CrippledPidgeon,

Um, each person seems to have thier own separate exit point in different points in space, so it's one per person (unless it changed recently?), but they are in different locations. You just can't see other peoples. When I say there should be only one, I mean Kurgan must die ... wait, I mean everyone in a storm should have the SAME exit point.

I think pirating in storms is a fine idea, the devs just need to set it up so that there is only 1 exit for everyone.

Having the storms apppear randomly in ANY sector would also help. Storms could then appear in deep space with no NPC bots to hassle players, giving the human pirates somewhere to hide.

Hoax: Ah, I didn't know that.

And got a hell of a lotta good cargo outta it

so far, the only effective way to avoid storms is to hop through empty sectors... if storms were just everywhere, I'm sure people could get really annoyed.
dodging bots while on patrol mission is like pirating in a storm... lots of distraction, but pretty exciting
