NPC traders!
Everywhere! it's so cool especially if you go to your nations border sector you will see a fleet of nation trader ships jump in and out regularly!
My only complaint is that they jump in, turbo to nearly 200, and jump out, so quickly that it's difficult to catch them. You can only bag them if you can hit them in passing, or get they before they start to run.
What? I just killed two of them in about five minutes... using storms. That's right. I hid in a storm.
Well... actually, what I did was try to go to Odia and get stuck in a storm in Edras. When I jumped out, I saw a bunch of TGP transports jump in. This gave me an idea. So I went and floated about the NT stration in Edras and waited for some transport bots to go by. I got on one's tail (was able to stay about 200m away the whole time in a FC/Hvy jackhammer hog)
The transport jumped. I had expected to see a jump message telling me where it went, but none was forthcoming. I hope it was headed for the storm I had discovered, and lo, when I jumped in, there was a lost and confused TGP transport. >:D
Widgets were only worth 600c apiece though :/
I tried the same thing in Jallik on a serco transport with the same success. It was carrying silicate ore (3c a piece!) which pissed me off. I guess that's the life of a pirate, eh? I got a slight increase in Itani standing for killing the transport... which is funny, because if I try to kill it in view of a station I become public enemy number 1. Little politics going on there? Kill 'em where we can't see it happen and we'll reward you, but if you do anything in front of us we have to take action.
Without storms though you would have to camp an unmonitored wormhole or something to get the kill.
I wish storms would occur in empty sectors on occasion - you know, a sector with a few asteroids but no bots. Dodging hostile bots while trying to pick up cargo is somewhat annoying.
Also, if a transport gets stuck in a storm full of evil bots, why don't the "pirate" bots attack the transports? Obviously this would decimate the transport population, but "pirate" bots are supposed to kill stuff. Right?

I had no troubling killing them, I just sat in Deneb and waited for them to come through the wh
You get a faction boost when you kill them. :-\
yea, get them near a wormhole, they are always going slow near a wormhole
same as alienb: i killed a TPG and a NS4 transport in UIT monitored space and "UIT standing increased slightly"
Of course, neither TPG or NS4 are protected by UIT. Don't try to attack a UIT convoy in UIT monitored space though!
Being that TPG's the foundation of the UIT's economy, you'd think they'd be a tad miffed if you went around destroying their ships, no?
You would. You'd also think that if the police saw you defending yourself, they would help instead of murdering you. Vendetta is a cruel, cruel place. ;P
I remember when I first saw them after the slight update really late that night. I was sitting at a worm waiting for the Serco convoy and saw 4 of them going right by me and decided to chase one. I got it right away...they have predictable patterns. Also, that little red thing helps you for intercept courses. Land one shot and they turn to 'attack you'.
I saw about 30 of them in one place at one time...was insanely cool but I though of screen dumping a few seconds too late.

Yeah, the game really, really, really needs a 'fault determination mechanism'. I suggest that it be merciless. You cause damage first, you're at fault.
And if you damage (or destroy) an enemy NPC in monitored space, you don't get KOS. If I'm Serco, and I destroy an Itani NPC Transport in Serco monitored space, then I'm not penalized by the Serco. Or if I'm Itani (why would I want to be that? I don't know) and I destroy a Serco NPC Transport in Itani monitored space, then I'm not penalized by the Itani.
penalties do need tobe worked out i have killed a pile of NS3 and recieved no faction hits at all which I don't mind but....without penalties i can still be a saint itani defender even though i pirate the crap out of all these convoys when really the law should be out to punish me
He's talking about protected Space I believe.
If you're UIT you should be able to kill anything without any police caring :P On a more serious note, it's weird having a higher Serco rep than UIT and still so many Serco love to missile me for being anywhere near the sectors you convoys travel in. Remind me not to actually use my favorite trade routes.
