leveling??players?weapons?ships?suggestions,rant!
didnt know if i should've put this in suggestions, but as it's more a rant than suggestions...
and sorry for the mess, my thoughts are not well organised.
and i know some of this is already posted, im posting it again :PP
[RANT]
i think this game needs far more balancing with the levels...and what you get with the levels.
I mean i tried a few ships at the beginning to quickly adopt the warthog. Then i spent 2 whole weeks (or more, my notion of time is dead) leveling and having good faction standing with differents faction.
So after all this work I finally reach 9/10/10/8, and by killing a lot of convoys i finally reach +900 with serco (i'm UIT), and there, im really really proud of being able to buy the highest level ship: the promotheus skycommand. So i equip it with the most powerful S rocket launcher, and the most powerful L rocket launcher, added with the special axia accelerated graviton blaster (i had to trade until i got +650 or something with them)
and there i realised it's just totally useless...any guy with a vulture mk1 and whatever gun you want can kill you real easily. Also, any guy with any missile launcher. Thats really depressing...being 4/4/0/0 is really all you need.
And you cant say i didnt try! :
my first encounter with a player i got my ass handed to me (hahaha f*cking noob)
the second time i came with missiles (omfg you missile spammer f*cking noob)
so i decided to not use missiles coz i dont like being called a spammer :/ and i got my ass handed to me by a guy using missiles :'( (dont tell me you can dodge geminis with a promotheus)
and its not a thread about how missiles are too powerful, i mean, missiles should go faster than a guy turboing anyway, its just a rant about being rewarded for having new levels...skill is cool, but you can expect having better ships/weapons when you gain a level (or 2)
solutions (?) (yes i know nobody's gonna change the game for the dumb opinion of a poor guy, especially since release is in a week)
weapons should get better with levels.
better ships too.
missiles should be more powerful but far more expensive (so that when you explode, you know the other guy just wasted 50000credits on you)
missiles should require more skills by putting some kind of 'lock' for the best tracking missiles: keep your target on your aim for 5 seconds, then the target is locked, you can fire. Or for some missiles: keep your target within your aim at all time if you want your missile to keep the lock.
more batteries at high level: this would allow to have more powerful, energy consuming guns at high levels, and there would be at last a point in having more than one port on your ship.
maybe big ships could even have several batteries?
and last but not least: maneuverability
i understand that when you are 6000KG instead of 3000, you're heavier to move around, but do you imagine having a tie fighter engine in a star cruiser? bigger ships means also enough space for a bigger engine. You can also expect a ship that doesnt turn fast having kind of turrets that can fire on the side or behind.
(ok, its hard for a big ship to escape a fight, but then at least make it something else than a sitting duck)
countermeasures: it has already been discussed. One more vote...
some kind of flak anti-fighter weapon (yes i hate vultures :P )
conclusion: for the moment my 'me' from two weeks ago, with less licenses, and less skills would be able to kill the current 'me' easily. thats just not right.
ok one last rant about players: if you like this game, refrain from calling peeps noobs just because theyre new or worse, because they dont use the weapons you want them to use. Because it will just make peeps give up the game.
[/RANT]
oh, and sorry for the rant, it's just im having a bad day in a bad week :/

This is where real skill comes in.
You fly what you know how to fly, and it seems that you have yet to master the prom. It takes time, don't worry 'bout it.

The Skycommand prom is a virtually unstoppable beast in the right hands. Just ask UncleDave.
I would agree that levels could probably use one more round of rebalancing before release, however. Particularly, I would like to see some of the more powerful weapons bumped back a few license levels. For example: tachyons become available at LW 3, and imo this is far too early since they have the highest damage per second of any weapon in the game. Also, for the NT both flechette mk I and flechette mk II become available at LW 5. The mk II is so much better than the mk I, I have no idea why they become available simulaneously. Gauss could probably be pushed back a level or two also, since it becomes available along with starflares, which are a far weaker weapon.

not anymore phaserlight. You cant dodge the friggin homers with it. A skycommand is a sitting duck, you may as well use the rag for the extra rack of swarms and an extra rack of gems.
In an energy fight, or an energy rocket fight, i'd put my skycommand against any ship/pilot in the game (ok except eldy in his gaussvalk, but still)
AS it stands now however, the homers spam is a serious problem. Especially when coupled with the infinite turbo at 200m/s of a FC battery.
Incidentally quentin, Most of the equipment does need reorganized as far as levels go. I think the devs are waiting to do that however until they add the mission content, much of which we've been led to believe will determine your access to weapons and equipment more than your levels and faction standing.

Ok, after reading the rant i agree (but did i not go beep beep after you shot at me?) I was defending the convoy, and was expecting missile spamming, *fight fire with fire, i actually hate homers...* that happens, just not outside stations with no warning IMHO
Sorry... i will give you the price of your ship.... but dont quit because you died... and what the above have not said is the devs here do actually listen... 1 person CAN make a difference.... (and have in the past) And as this title will be updated after release, realease dates are irrelivent....

nah i didnt get hit, and the point isnt really homers, or turbo. Its just that i feel its useless to gain levels. The concept of a rpg is that you work to gain levels to be more powerful, but its not the case here (well ok the valk is better than the bus). For the moment its a great MMOSAG (massively multiplayer online space action game) but not RPG.
As i said, it's really great that you have a lot of skill involved in space combat, and not only numbers. But basically once you have the license for tachyons, vulture and fc batt, every other level will only give you really really small advantages.

Another small beef about license levels: in many cases there will be one weapon that becomes available at, say, -/-/5/- and another weapon that is far more powerful that becomes available at 5/-/5/-. The difference between -/-/5/- and 5/-/5/- is negligible, so the less powerful weapon instantly becomes dwarfed by the more powerful weapon, and there is never much cause to use it.
Rather than bunching the weapons together at -/-/5/-, 5/-/5/-, and 5/5/5/- etc. I think a better scheme would be to spread them out over: -/-/5/-. -/-/6/-, -/-/7/-.

Might I note that I killed Quentin with my tachyons, while he was using Geminis...

Leveling in this game is a lot less important.
This is not like every other mmorpg where higher levels means better equipment.
In a twitch skilled based mmorpg, anyone with lower level ship can take you out while your in a higher ship with bigger firepower, and player skills(ant not skill points) is the main key to the game.
