Compairing graphics
I was just looking at the graphics for eve online and damn they look good! I know it's not nice for me to be compairin Vendetta and eve online but I was just thinking, do you guys(the devs)ever thing you'll up the graphics to look a little more like eve? I mean yea keep the style you've got I mean I'm not a graphics pro or anything like that so I really can't go telling you guys what to do, but, is it possible somewhere down the line the graphics will get more..mmm, glossy?(for lack of a better word)
IMHO, it looks good right now, plus it runs very well on medium to low-end systems. I have no problems with the graphics :) And with release so close, if something like that was going to happen, it wouldnt be for a long while.
EVE looks good cause nothing is happening in that game, you literaly just fly in a straight line. Thats the only reason they can get away with graphics like that. If they had vendetta like gameplay then only the best computers ever made could play it.
Actually, I've always thought Vendetta and EVE were very close graphically. EVE just has funky ship designs with slightly more complicated ship texturing. I don't even think EVE uses pixel shading on shiny asteroids.
Besides, EVE chugs in large fights. VO flies like a dream with even dozens of asteroids and bots on the screen.

hum, ok then. I was just wondering cause I saw how good eves graphics looked. Well I can't wait for this game to come out!
We do want to spruce up the graphics though, for what it's worth. Unfortunately, graphics assets take a long time to create, especially when a lot of shaders and the like are involved (which is the case with all of our newer content). We haven't had the time to work on that kind of content, but hopefully that'll be part of our first big addon (along with cap ships, in about 6 months).
i think the engine is fine the way it is, but in the future i would like to see some more high resolution textures on ships and other apparel. :D
Not so much higher resolution as it is DETAIL, perhaps. The ships are somewhat uniform metallically.
The nice thing about VO is that it's graphics engine is really effiecent... I mean, I haven't seen 1 game that runs on my cruddy laptop (700mhz P3, ATi Rage 8MB) and look ASTONISHING on my Desktop (2.2ghz AXP, FX5900 128MB).
Doom 3 can't do that, but Vendetta can.
The textures can use a bump, and then the ships need to look different like Forcystus... Then Stations... (They are all shaped differently, but they all look reletively the same...).
But anyway...
1. Vendetta looks nice enough. Im using some screenshots as mine as my Desktop Background.
2. Id much rather see the Devs work on the game's strong points. I really don't see (too) many people come to Vendetta Online for graphics anyway, so it would be useless to work on it now :). I want to see some more kick-*** missions, and more bug fixing.
3. I want to see HOW much factions will effect this game. Maybe Serco will win an Itani war once and for all and the devs will give us Serco a nice big section of the universe with uber rare metals that weighs like nothing, but you get like 293821389280c for trading it...
4. You get my point ;).

/me Agrees with MonkRX, the graphics are not the be all and end all of a game, the game play should be... nuff said...
The graphics are great in some points. For instance some asteroids are perfect while others... are well.... you know what i'm talking about. Also the ships could use just a little less straight lines. Besides that the universe is beatiful. Oh yeah, i think the only reason EVE graphics look better than VO graphics is the style. It's kinda like watching 2 different types of animated movies. Just... different.
(my 2 cents)

There is only so long you will play a game just to look at pretty graphics. Gameplay is much more important.
I agree, gameplay is important, but the graphics, aka eye candy, are what get people to play the game in the first place to realise how good the gameplay is, its all good and proper for us knowing the gameplay is good, but the average joe when seeing screenshots of the old models probaly won't stay long enough to even notice the gameplay.
Eve's graphics are very different to VO's, they set an environment that you can recognice in eve from a screenshot right away, and also, there is more to eve than flying in straight lines :-) The ships in eve have mounted turrets that rotate, 3d modelded planets, the warp effect when you approach objects is awesome, to me that one thing VO lacks atm, it really needs some kind of warp effect instead of loading screens.
I'll admit the VO graphics are great for low end machines though, this game is definatly the best i've seen recently for multi platform and systems of varieing ages :-)

hey I am just happy that I can play it with my P3-800 :P
I like the current ship designs personally. They look far less crazy compared to other space games. Eventually it will be nice to have a few more though.
And I have never met anybody that played a game for more then a week on graphics alone so I agree with the rest of ya.
