Vendetta and Long Term Interest
I've seen a few of the newer players concerned about the current lack of missions and if the levelling system in Vendetta is enough to keep them interested, even though they are enjoying the game at the moment. I would say that you shouldn't see Vendetta as a game where the primary purpose is to get higher and higher levels. I see levelling as an activity that you do for a short while initially, until you can get some semi-decent ships and equipment, then you can start enjoying what Vendetta is really about. That is, you start to assign yourself objectives, and perhaps begin grouping with friends to achieve a common goal, whether that be running a cargo convoy together, or an incursion into enemy space... Of course you might wanna play as a lone warrior, or as a bounty hunter seeking out pirates or those with a price on their head. Or you may decide you don't like a certain guild and will quit at nothing to see them burning in their ships....
The mission and levelling system was introduced relatively recently, and before that we still had a good time, with some large skirmishes, wars between guilds (before the formal guild system was even implemented), bounties placed on certain infamous pilots, lucrative cargo runs, duelling, etc... Basically I'm saying don't view the missions as the be-all and end-all of the Vendetta gameplay.. There are plenty of things to do, if you want there to be... It's an open playing field...

I think what your saying is level up to learn the combat system and get your aim and flight tatics down. Learn to dock with a minimum of bouncing.
Then dare I say it start ROLYPLAYING. Yes start making a name for yourself and your group if you have one to fit in the universe as somthing more then a just another joe with a gun.

Yep. ;-)
My initial reaction to VO is a definite 2 Thumbs up. For me it fills that void between the Classic MMORPG with its neccesary level treadmill (Which i friggen hate hate hate), and the Classic FPS. Until recently I have been playing Planetside, which I would consider a very good FPS not a MMORPG, the one thing PS lacked though was something to do other than shooting. After the 100th time you retake the same base that you spent 2 hours to take a day ago, it got a bit old, but you did not have the option to say "screw it, ill make trade runs and get some cash"
I do think that for FPS/PvP enthusiast that likes to do some other stuff every once in a while, this game definitely has some very good longevity potential.
I do see this game as something where all you need to do is play the game, and progression will happen by itself. Dont let it play you.

Whadget, masterfully put.

This trully is a game where the limits lie only in your imagination.

Especially once the backstory dump hits this weekend, roleplay (even PvP roleplay!) will become a helluva lot more viable. We've got scant little to work with ATM.

That's been my problem with getting into the roleplaying. I have no idea what each faction stands for, I have no idea the backstory of this universe... I've got nothing to work with.
Like the game alot, but I can barely figure out what I'm supposed to be doing.

well i hate to say this but so far I haven't found 1 thing that JG doesnt do better, save the perty stations and roids.
Ill stick with the beta and see if it gets better but as of right now I don't like this game and I so wanted to.

It's not a game, it's a beta. There is no content at the moment, just a testing framework upon which the content can be placed.

it's a stress test of the network structure at the moment, the devs are still working on content and will add it as the test progresses. they ran into some unexpected bugs after they posted that they would be doing a stress test which delayed it (obviously) so they seem to have opened it up earlier contentwise (if not timewise) than planned.
They currently have a release date of october 26th which leads me to believe that they have a lot of progress made on some of the items in the interviews, and simply havent added them because they are not content complete yet. (like more defined missions and a better trade mission grid, they have long hinted to us that there would be different types of trade missions, both long range and shorter hops)
