Level Treadmill?
I searched the forums, and could not find any info here on in the manual on how your character progresses through the game?
I'm coming from EVE, which has arguably the best skill training system ever, it's a purely time based system.
Can someone enlighten me as to the progression system Vednetta Online uses, I hope it's not the standard level treadmill :(

Skill level is determined by the ability of the pilot. Higher levels enable your character to buy better ships and weapons, and also take more interesting missions, but a skilled lower level player could still easily kill a higher level non-skilled player. This is due to the combat system of Vendetta, ie. real-time "twitch" based, rather than dice rolling... Combat is a large part of the Vendetta universe, but it is still possible to play as a trader, (almost) avoiding combat altogether....

So as long as I have the credits, I can fly any ship I want, or buy any kind of weapon I want, I don't have experience levels holding me back? (Like EnB with lvl 1-9 equipment, had to gain experience levels...)
EVE Online you have to train skills in order to use certain types of equipment, etc...

You have to acquire "licenses" to be able to use various ships and equipment... However, just because you have the best ship doesn't mean you are any good at flying it, so you could still be destroyed by someone with lesser equipment but with more skill (as a pilot). You gain licenses by accumulating experience points in 4 different areas; Combat, Light weapons, Heavy weapons, and Trade. At certain points you can gain a new license in each, which opens up access to better ships and equipment.
No, you still have to level by doing missions. What Icarus was saying is that while those levels open up better equipment, a skilled pilot with low levels can still take on a lesser skilled pilot with higher levels. All those levels do is open up better equipment - they don't give you any other advantage over a lower leveled person.
There are no skills for combat. You get better the more you practice, plain and simple.

Ok, thanks for the info...
Looks like a lvl treadmill :(
However, I am excited about trying this game out :)
Thank You!

Depends what you want to aim for... If you want to try and get to level 10+, its going to be a bit monotonous... Personally , I'm happy getting to license levl 4 or 5, when I get access to a ship I really like flying (Serco Guardian Vulture)... Then I don't care much for levelling, prefer taking missions for the fun of it, and also pursue some of my own goals and objectives ;-)

To clarify, I've killed people in Valkyries with triflares while using a stock EC-88. Just because you've got a better ship than me, doesn't mean you can kill me.
Valkyrie: Best fighter in the game
triflares: three "sunflare" class unguided rockets. Heavy damage, good splash range.

I have to agree with Icarus (and also BEWARE when he says things like: "pursue some of my own goals and objectives"...BEWARE!)
Level 5 or 6 is not too tough to get too and puts you in a range of equipment that can hold its own against the higher levels (provided you have the skills to use it well). If you want the extra edge the highest level equipment gets you be prepared to work for it.

Ok, cool...
As long as the game does not feel like "work" I'm good...
I didn't last very long in SWG's because of the treadmill...

Basically, the "treadmill" will get you the uber equipment, but it's your skills as a pilot that will keep you alive. Your life is is your own hands.
Regarding Icarus... His "objectives" usually include the very violent discharge of explosive devices against the side (front, back) of another player's ship. Be afraid. Be very, very afraid. Same can be said for Phoenix. You have been warned.

And me! Me! I like killing people too!
OT: Of course the most feared of all, the dreaded pirate [SYN]n00b. Be afraid, be very afraid...
