I showed the box to my students and many didn't know why the penguin was on the box. Not many extra credit points earned today. :)

I teach all sciences (chemistry, physics, earth/space, biology, etc) 9th-12th grade (district requires 4 credits of science to graduate) at an alternative HS.

Well let's see how many elementary students know who the Linux penguin is.

My students were more focused on Game Cube, PS2, X-Box......

Alternative=For At-Risk students. Low-Income, ADHD, Teen Parent, Need to work to help family, short on credits for graduation, different, social problems, etc. Non-traditional.

I during the day I teach using the ELOB model (Expeditionary Learning, Outward Bound) major hands-on, authenitc fieldwork type classes. Major fun! I love it!

At night I do the Independent Study class; once the kids have their assignments I just have to supervise the classroom.

You can see one of the reasons I married her. She's so smart! :)
