Anyone notice whats new?
"Fixes and stuff" doesn't tell me much. :)

Looks like the weird looking textures have been fixed.

Well, it no longer uses the new 1337 updater...

And the ion storm effect is 1337er! See screenshot below:

Yeah, we gave up on the HTTP-based updater.

You'd think "what's so hard about getting files over HTTP?" but it turns out there's so much weird crap out there (transparent proxies and broken webservers specifically) we just can't trust it to work reliably. It's unbelievable what we ran into in just a week of testing with a restricted set of users.

So now we can cop out and say your firewall must be able to connect us with these two ports otherwise the game won't work, and we don't have to worry about some Polish web proxy which blanks out Content-Length headers that some user doesn't have any choice but to use.

Also fixed were a few crashes here and there. I don't know all the specifics as I was dozing on the couch while Ray and Waylon were finalizing the 3.5.10 release late last night.

yeah looks really freaky in motion :)

edit: that was in reply to rogue

edit: not that it ever effected me but which ports does the updater use?

And wouldn't ftp have been an option?

Shh.

Would it be possible to make the ion storm effects be toggleable without particle effects? I just find the space debris to be very annoying and obtrusive. But I'd like to have the ion storm effect.

Arolte, that was part of 3.5.10. The ion storm bubbles now appear with space junk off.

Polish? Made in America! (Cisco I was told) ;-)

FTP is a terrible protocol. And andreas, I was referring to someone else's stuff. Your situation is also pretty bad.

No it doesn't, Rogue. At least not in the Mac version.

EDIT: Nevermind. Got mixed up with version numbers (hard to read with all the gibberish in the updater). Didn't think a new one was released so soon. Disregard the above. Sweet FX btw.

What about rsync?
Sep 03, 2004 a1k0n link
rsync is pretty close to what it does now, except the deltas are precomputed on the server. Either way, rsync is not a ubiquitous protocol with operating system support like HTTP is and our mirrors would still have to set up a custom server.
