Heyo~

Jun 03, 2004 hydrocarbon link
Maybe some of you remember me? I used to play a while ago, quit, played for awhile again, and quit again, and am thinking of coming back :x

Just wondering, is there a reset scheduled for the near future, so that I might rejoin then? Or should I just start playing now :o

I think there may be a reset of sorts coming soonish.

There was a full reset with the release of 3.4 a few weeks back. And I don't think there will be a full reset (maybe partial?) with the next major update. The final release will probably have a full reset. In any case I think now would be a good time to at least get acquainted with the new mission and faction systems. Instead of starting out with everything, you need to work your way up through missions. So... get to it!

JUST DO IT!

The next full slate wiper will probably be at Release is my guess. There's no point in doing so now since we're inside a month or so of release date.

There'll probably be a semi reset soon like ray said when they introduce the 7000+ sector universe but probably not a slate wiper is the mass consensus.

I'd say that there's a definite reset at release because, I mean, what kind of community would we be if the testers all started with Valks and the like while the newbs were in itty bitty buses?

I would point out that Summer doesn't end officially until mid September. :) So how do YOU KNOW there will be a release within a month ehh?

Oh wow release is expected that soon?

The final golden version is due "Sometime this summer". IE Pay to Play.

I will almost guarantee you that there will be a reset this month with the coming of the 7k sector universe.

I hope so.
Jun 04, 2004 Arolte link
Not a full one though! Just a faction one. I hope...

Wouldn't want thousands of hours of botting go to waste for people who worked hard to level up, now would we? Come to think of it, many hours of hauling cargo back and forth (esp. through all the bugs) were also spent on raising faction standings. Damnit...

reset it. our hours/standings/points mean nothing as long as the devs are getting the data they need.
Jun 04, 2004 Arolte link
May I ask how it would help test the game? If anything it has the opposite effect. By having players start off with various faction ratings, each player will have their own unique experience to report. Same goes with experience points. If everyone starts off with zero everything, it'll take weeks to get those levels back up again. That's weeks that'll be lost testing stuff we've already gone over in the past couple of versions. The only reason I'd see why people would be so concerned about wanting a reset is because of personal stats, not testing the actual game.
Jun 04, 2004 furball link
Arolte and you know this HOW? Are you now a developer? :) The new universe could and probably WILL have some MAJOR effects on faction standings, experience, etc. And I would place what is probably a SAFE bet that they will have more missions either WHEN the universe is released OR VERY soon there after.
Jun 05, 2004 Arolte link
Probably, yes, but it does very little to test the game if nobody ever actually achieves some of the higher levels by the time the game is released. You'd cover more area if you had a group of players with diverse experiences and situations than having everyone start from square one again. Newbies are still joining Vendetta Test and they can still help on their part. Of course there are still some experienced players who have a long way to go as well.

I really don't think a full reset will accomplish anything. By release? Yes, I think there's a good chance one will occur. That's a given. But when you're still testing it'll just mask some of the problems that may encounter later on as the player goes through the game. We'll never know until we have that diversity.

Perhaps we could all quietly await the posting of the facts from the devs, rather than getting mired in speculation.
Jun 05, 2004 furball link
/me quietly points out to arolte... Nope, newbs are NOT joining. LMAO
Jun 05, 2004 RelayeR link
Well, actually, furball, n00bs are joining. Anyone with an account prior to the closing that hasn't experienced the faction system or new bots or trading/cargo missions, is a n00b. I see a couple "n00b returnees" every day.

If the decision has not been made yet, I'd like to voice my opinion and recommend that there NOT be a reset with the release of the new universe.

I agree with Arolte in that a diverse range of experience levels to test the new universe is a good thing.

ok... here's what Ray says at the top of this post:
"I think there may be a reset of sorts coming soonish." -Raybondo

note the 'of sorts'
Just in case anyone's missed it the fact that the faction system is very messed up at the moment let me point that out. If the devs do say dramatically change the system (which is pretty likely if not in this update then in one 'soon' TM) then they will also reset everyone's faction rating.

In the past there's really only been one important thing to reset, which is economics (money and inventory). There's also been score but that has never really mattered.
Now there are three things: economy, skill levels, and faction ratings. If they change any of these significantly enough they are likely to reset that piece independently of the others.
