Vendetta Expansion pack!!!!...?
I just read somehwere Incarnate said they will eventualy release an expansion pack with the cap. Ships for us to fly!!!! Hurrah..!
Why be excited? because eventualy we will get to fly them. I just have a few questions:
1: What caused the delay of the frigates? why did player frigs get pushed back so far as to an expansion pack, i know you guys are ub3r busy, but are they super hard to make work?
2: Can the alpha/beta testers of Vendetta (US!!!) get to beta the expansion before everyone else? :)

/me predicts:
1: yes
2: no
1: yes
2: no
1: Supposedly, flying the frigate right now sucks. The AI parenting prolly doesn't work, as they have been working on new bots and mission system stuff.
2: Prolly not.
2: Prolly not.
The frigates giant mass makes it hard...
I have never tried programming frigate physics, so this may sound trite and dumb... but would a waypoint navigation system help things at all? (Rather than the first person "cockpit" view we use with the fighters)
As far as I know, the fact that the turrets are separate entities make it hard, and the mass thingy is somewhat worked around.
Ah, it was almost worked around genka, but there was still the dilemma of that for all intensive purposes the current mass system wouldn't give the frig its full momentum.
Especially seeing how one of the original problems was that the frig wouldn't stop turning if it started...
The bottom line is financial reality. Guild has funding which will allow for a finite amount of formal work time. Once the money is gone, new funding will be needed. The hope is that much of the work required to make Vendetta attractive to a publisher will be done before the current funding source is exhausted, and that a publisher will purchase the product for an amount that pays off the investor, guild's expenses, and allows for a contract to continue to develop the product. This "free" game has been funded largely by Incarnate and an investor, who need to see some return on their investments.
/me buys stocks from guild
=D hehe jp

hmm, i really need a credit card...
only 15, DOH!
but yeah...did you see the frigates in the 3.3 war?
they weren't handling well at all, infact they were utterly useless unless the pilot whacks an attacker with it.

Utterly useless??! What about the devastating flyswatter attack??! Ray/a1k0n would swing the front end of their frig around, whacking other pilots into the oblivion! But I never saw any avalons explode on those frigs...that would've been cool.
The "frigates" that we sometimes fly in-game are just silly large models. There isn't any proper flight method and command system for that scale of ship yet, and we really have no hope of making one in the next few months. We want to make the basic game Fun, and the basic game is essentially just small ships, missions, factions, etc. As Forum Moderator said, we only have a finite amount of money (and thus, time) to try and make Vendetta a financial success. Having monetary income will allow us to then continue to work on the game and expand it in all the ways that we have long wanted to. But, first and foremost we have to create a basic game worth paying for. Then we can hope to build on that.
Amen! Amen! Once the unwashed masses have a taste of Vendetta's uber 1337ness, the money will flow and the expansion packs will grow!
