Yeah, I second that wtf. Maybe the frigate caused a timewarp in 16 or something..

Blitz, Starfisher, meet Sector 0.
Except he's in 16, as you can see from the asteroid halo and ice chunks in one of the shots.
Or do you mean the s0 skybox somehow got loaded instead of 16?

Muawhawhahaha ... it happened to somebody else :) see the "Funky Color mode" thread in the bugs board :)
did the game crash or the connection die before that? ... judging from your position it looks like it :)
I have an odd feeling it's not just a "client bug in the presence of less-than-optimal network conditions" ... but I could be wrong :)

It would appear to be the sector 0 information loaded over the sector 16 information as you can still see the s16 skybox. It is quite clearly s16 because it has the s16 skybox and asteroid formations. If it was s0, it would not have the stars behind the s0 skybox, there would be no roids, and if there were it would resemble the old s4.
Yeah.... I talked to LeathaL in-game, he said he was in 5 when it happened. He was docked, something weird happened with lag, and when he undocked, the s0 skybox was there.
/me starts singing "Let's do the time warp now!" from Rocky Horror Picture Show
ya I've sent in a bug report about it too...

Did you all notice that we get a very angry sun staring at us instead of the sector chart?
When I logged in I got that weird stuff. Didn't do anything.
Oh yea, I logged off spaced. Didn't crash nor had lag.
DEVS?!!!!!?!!!!!!!!!!!!???????!!!!!!!

Okie, my theory.
Our connections were messed up. That caused the server somehow send both s16 and s0's details (in my case).
I think in s0 there's that angry sun instead of the chart, right?

yeah, there was
The client picks which skybox to render as you load a sector. It seems that when you first log in, your current sector ID is reset to 0, and usually it's set correctly before the level graphics are initialized, but apparently not always. Had you just logged in, or did you warp in?
There was also a server outtage last night / early this morning. That may have had something to do with it.
From In Progress:
The network hosting the game server will have a scheduled maintenance outage tonight (Fri morning) at 1am CST, for roughly 5 minutes. Router reboot, nothing big. Game service will be interrupted briefly by this outage. Thanks.
Edit: Hmm a1k0n snuck in ahead of me.

alkon: Logged in, not warped.
BUT
I was running another client. One as a user and the second as root with ~/.vendetta symlinked to my user... So had 2 clients using the same ~/.vendetta dir.
First time to happen to me, so I don't think it's connected to the symlink issue.
FOrum Mod: I was online when there was a server outtage. The time difference between the outtage and the wacky skybox was about 6 hours.

Well, that explains it (nothing to do with symlinks or anything.. just a potential out-of-order packet problem during initial login). It's on my list.
yeah, this happened to me, i was running gnutella on another desktop.
