Blah blah blah, the community sucks. . .
So yesterday, a person (let's call him Bob) was being attacked by a greifer (let's call him Bubba) while attempting to test something he thought was a potential bug. Naturally, he got pissed at his attacker and started complaining. Another character (who we will call Billy) PMs him and asks him where the offending player is. Bob says "Sector 5 outpost" then begins to rant and rave about how much the community sucks and how nobody wants to drop everything they're doing to help him out.
Meanwhile, Billy is running over to the S5 outpost and doesn't see anybody on his radar. Billy PMs Bob asking where the attacker is. Bob, instead of giving Billy the info he needs to help, decides to rant and rave about the sorry state of the community for 10 minutes, all the while ignoring, and being VERY rude to Billy, who is actually trying to help.
So, Bob chooses to condemn the entire community due to the actions of one person, Bubba, and completely ignores Billy, who had nothing but an intent to help him.
We can learn a lesson from this. One person wanted to help. One person was being a jerk. I'm no mathematician, but that looks like equal numbers of good and bad to me. So why don't you people try to focus on the people that are trying to help you rather than whine and moan about "the declining state of the community" as if you were on some sort of pedestal that entitles you to more respect than you bother to give everyone else?
Changing the community for the better starts with you. Instead of ranting and raving, try fixing it by doing something positive and reinforcing the people who try to do something positive instead of deprecating everyone around you. I'm tired of the whining. If you don't like where the community is headed, either do something to fix it or leave. Whining about it, or even worse, acting like the very thing you detest because of some fatalistic "everyone else is doing it" attitude doesn't get us anywhere.

Well made point Magus. Whinning is perhaps more forgivable than griefing but possibly just as detremental to everyones over-all gaming experience.
Excellent post. Three cheers.
think HAPPY thougths...
Very true, but I take offense to the fact that the griefer is named John. I'm sure Incarnate will be pleased.... :P
heh, if you suck enough to be able to be griefed by Incarnate, you deserve it =D
I would also add ... if you are testing something be VERY LOUD and VERY CLEAR that you are testing a bug. Sometimes people run into a situation (and I've done it myself unfortunately) where they don't KNOW you're testing a bug because say you announced it minutes ago and they just connected 30 seconds ago so they haven't SEEN your bug testing announcement. ;)
Sometimes that's not enough though.
Wow, first I'm accused of griefing, then of sucking.. pretty harsh ;). (just kidding). But I prefer to think of myself as "out of practice", heheh.
Greifer's name changed to Bubba to avoid any confusion.
I came on and assisted with some bug testing last night. Everyone was very decent about it. Thanks.
dang, if inc. can use that excuse, can i do the same?

The n00b was serco. He was being killed by an Itani. But the nations aren't important, the principle is. Fortify the people who are helping the community instead of whining about it.
Magus, this is very simple, so listen closley:
1. I responded to you in a civil manner where I was.
2. You continued to ask where I was, without checking your screen logs.
3. I responded one more time, and you caught on.
4. You screamed at me, missing what I told you already, and having checked your logs (I assume) you said "oh."
5. You then asked where the griefer was, and by common sense I told you to check the active players list. He had already logged.
Never once did I direct that anger towards you. Never once did I insult you. I saw that as the final straw, as I couldn't believe people would hinder bug testing when I declared it over and over both before being shot, during being shot, and after being shot. It was only after my 5th death, and 20 pms later between me and the griefer that a 2nd griefer joined in.
Yes, I blew up. Yes I became tired of the community. A person has limits, and I reached them. Have a problem with that? Too bad, it's called humanity and personal limits of withstanding abuse.
I'm here to help the system and game. Anyone going against me on that is doing the opposite. End of story.

Turanicraider, do not cause this thread to be locked. Magus came with an example (in a most excellent post, I must say), and did not mention your name. This was very decent of Magus indeed, for it is quite the opposite of what is generally posted at these boards nowadays. You should not have posted such an obvious bait to flamewar, but let it lie, or better even, talk it over with Magus. Be nice.
I suggest you delete your previous post, as it will not (for it won't) put you in a positive light. At all.

There is no talking to him about it. I never once insulted or berated him for his assistance.
If he feels the need to lie about it, so be it. I will continue beta testing and helping others beta test because -that is what we are here to do- I do not plan on sitting around arguing in game, wasting the dev's bandwidth on arguments, griefers, and the like when I could be improving the game.
Bad light or not, I'm bug testing, and the people who try to interfer are not helping you, Archon, the game, or those who actually bug test for you.

Don't get me wrong. I, for one, is most pleased you dedicate much of your time in-game to bugtest, turanicraider, as do we all. Thing is, while we bugtest, why don't we try to get along?
Aye, that I can work harder to do. If you can shake my hand and say we can work on helping give bug testers a chance to test, then I will most certainly return the handshake and give my word on improving my attitude.
As I stated above, I simply "lost it" that night. I had reached my limit, and blew apart. I was wrong, and of course apologize. I never want anything more than to test and improve upon this game to my fullest degree.
So my apologies if I come off rude or overbearing, as I sometimes let the level of dedication and seriousness I place on bug testing to an unhealthy and unfriendly degree.
