I know I know... you've all explained this before...
BUT, please explain it one more time for me...
I under stand the concept of a bot... but where are the bots and what do they do?

"Bots" are Non-Player-Characters (NPCs), "robot" ships controlled by the game server rather than live players. They can be found in most sectors (except for 7, 9, 5, and maybe one or two others) and, depending on their location, either attack all ships (NPCs) or only ships not affiliated with the sector the bot is protecting (NPCDEF).
The bots are generally not very clever, but they make up for it by having a seemingly inexhaustable battery and some weapons that are not available to players. Generally, the higher the bounty, the meaner the bot. They are not yet able to wormhole jump or scoop cargo, though they will drop one cargo container if you kill one. The frigate in sector 16 is also a bot, though it does not move. It carries 32 cargo boxes, some of which are quite valuable. It is defended by turrets.

Okay, user-created bots "do" whatever it is they were created to do. We have had IRCBot that relayed chat between IRC and Vendetta, BountyBot that handles bounties and banking tasks, CasinoBot provided some rudimentary gambling games, Vbot that allows you to control the Vbot ship remotely, etc. Users have created them through the use of various scripts which rely on feedback from the game or errorlog. Usually the bots are placed in sectors 9 or 7 because those sectors are central and free of NPCs. Since /givemoney requires the donor and recipient to be in the same sector, the location is important.

Morbidly Wrong, almost every player made bot responds to the command "help" ie type '/msg "botname" help' and they will tell you what they do... or how to do more complicated help commands... one bot that FM didn't mention is Vendetta Ice which keeps track of duels as well as providing some bank features and bounties.
uh FM, i think the frig drops 50 cargo boxes cause i killed it more than 13 times and each time i collected all of the cargo and i got 50 pices and usually get 300k for it.
Hmmm, looks like you are right. The frigate stats say the cargo capacity is 32. I guess they strap some on the roof.
Maybe it buys some before it uh... undocks...
