Wait for the next version of FRAPS to come out :P, then you can record to like 1024x768.

You can always use a video out on Video cards and plug it into a VCR or something, then you can record it on tape.... then you can plug the VCR into a Video In jack on your computer and record it back.

and that takes foorreevveerr ;)
less you have an awesome computer

640x480 is enough, you're not making HDTV material you know. the newer version of fraps sucks IMO because at 1024x768, even my 3200 cant keep up with most games, as it tries to encode it into a WMP-like format.

Alienb, next question: what software do you use for editing the footage? I'm well versed in iMovie, but I don't want to have to transfer my video captures (~4 gigs a piece) to my Mac. I've tried using Windows Movie Editor, but it is so useless for this, I had to laugh.

Eh, what did i use again...

I have the full version of fraps.. though its not that expensive either.(I actually bought the software)

Costs like $30 for it.

If you want a program similar to fraps, spend around $1000 for a video capturing card.

P.s. I use virtual dub for compressing movies..

"Costs like $30 for it."

-$30! That's like. . . 120 gumballs!

I also have fraps and virtual dub. can't remember paying for fraps, so I must be using the demo version.
for editing: adobe premiere pro 7.0

1000 bucks for a Video Capture card? rofl.

Fraps ain't too expensive. It is worth 30 bucks.

Currently, I have a VCR Plugged into a USB Video Capture Thingy (Records Video signals through Svideo and RCA Video, along with sound). My Video card also has Svideo out, so all I have to do is display Vendetta through Svideo out jack on my video card, and lead a wire through my Capture device. All I would really need is a Svideo splitter (so I can see what I am recording), and some way to record sound.

The only problem is how can I display Vendetta on my secondary monitor? It will work if i set the Svideo as my primary monitor, but then my Desktop icons get messed up :P.

The demo Version of FRAPS is ok... but isn't it limited to 30 second long movies? And if you want to capture the entire screen, you would have to run the game @ 640x480. (PS: FRAPS save all its movies as AVIs...)

The more recent demo can only record for 30 seconds or so, but the older version is free. The last free version, can record unlimitedly, 640x480, in .avi. I've gotten around that .avi problem, by using my new copy of Adobe Premiere 6 ( :p ) to export them as QT .mov's. And I just finished a video of an ultimate frisbee video game. Kind of like those football games, but frisbee. Whee fancy videos are fun. My next project will be to make a guide to all the hidden sectors...that is, if not to many people object to that idea.

anyone know of a screencapture software for linux?

/me is too lazy to use google :)

thinking about it ... maybe "cat /dev/fb0 > movie.raw" might even work :]
Mar 29, 2004 roguelazer link
The fb0 wouldn't work because the X11 fbdev driver isn't hardware accelerated. Vendetta runs on an xserver, which has no device node. I reccommend plugging a VGA->s-video cable into your vga port then looping back into a $50 video capture card. Or you could write your own- it'd just be slow because of the way X works.

I know :) ... hey playing with Mesa sounds like fun

I did that once with a TV card ... but the picture was blurry and I couldn't go above 640x480 ... I hoped for a more direct approach

rc--guides to hidden sectors have been made before, so I daresay no one would object to the idea. I've never seen a videoguide though. hey, it'd be really cool (given that tedius parts like turboing are cut out)
