PVP ?
Was thinking about trying the game but I'm not a PVPer so should I even bother?
You can also trade and mine. No place is completely safe, but staying in the confines of your nation's space is safer. It's not too hard to avoid combat with other players, and death is fairly painless once you have put away some resources.
Why not try it out for free?

The game is intended to be a "sandbox", where a lot of different play-styles are possible. That includes those who focus on PvE (versus bots) or are not combative at all (miners, traders, crafting/manufacturers, etc).
PvP technically can happen anywhere, but like Whistler says, in practice it tends to be much more limited to some places than others.

What about killing attack bots aka PVE ? There is plenty of those and many types of missions and others stuff to do.
games huge the monitored space your safe in has many solar systems. Theres lots of hive bots to fight against and lots of challenging chain combat quests.
I have been playing a week or more i have been right into pirate space not been jumped yet.
Like other posters said you can completely pve your way through the game if you do stray into uncharted territories just dock at a spacestation or always have your nav programmed for the next jump
