Cannot Clear Key Bindings
Hello All,
Revisiting with Vendetta after a long time in EVE and Elite. In the process, I've run into an issue with key bindings.
While I can add a new keybinding in the controls panel, I cannot clear the original or the ones I add. When I select a bind and press the delete, backspace or escape keys, it adds those keys instead of eliminating the target bindings.
The only recourse is to then reset the keybindings using the default button. But that doesn't help me customize my bindings.
Otherwise, all keyboard and mouse clicks work smoothly.
Am I missing something obvious? Is this a bug? How might I address this?
Thanks ahead of time for your thoughts.

You can try using the typed commands to bind and unbind keys.
Example: /bind Q none
Will clear the bind for the key "Q"
Or to bind a command: /bind Q Activate
Will bind the Activate command to "Q"
A pretty good list of commands can be found here .
Here are some instructions on how to bind stuff

Hi.
Thank you for this advice. Very helpful and I appreciate it.
Still, to clarify, I am to understand that there is no way to clear bindings except through the command line? Really?
Cheers

Sure there is. You can go into your `wgaf.cfg` (location will depend on your system) and set/unset the bindings in there.
Just out of curiosity, how would you envision a UI to clear a keybinding working?

I like that we can make direct edits. Still, like every other configurable game that allows you to set / clear / reset in the controls panel/menu.
When I was first looking into this question by searching the forum, I did find a posting from 2016 that this was a normal mechanic that broke after an update.

The obvious solution would be to have a clear button next to each setting (either for each individual input, or per-action with a menu that pops up if multiple inputs are bound to that action).

Pizza is good. As is this suggestion. :)
According to the help it says mouse over the item and hit backspace or del and it will clear the bind, but I'm guessing Guild hasn't gotten around to implementing that yet?
more like something broke that some long time ago, and fixing it is low priority since there are other ways to get the same functionality.
I'm glad after all these years Guild hasn't changed. I would have hated to thought I was missing something in the intervening years.

I mean, we have implemented a hell of a lot of other stuff? I didn't actually remember this was (still) broken, but.. things fall off our radar sometimes. We've started tracking issues more meticulously this year, but it can happen. We do ask people to bump Bugs threads and the like, if issues are a problem.
We also occasionally fix bugs, and then have the bug "come back" for some unexpected reason when we change something else, awhile later.. and we may not realize it. And players may not remember it was actually fixed for awhile, and attribute it to "always being broken", and not report it. I'm not saying that was the case here, but it has happened a number of times with other content.
The intent is to replace that entire terrible Settings key-binding interface with something much better, which we did as far as gamepads on mobile. A much better user experience. But, we didn't have time to implement it across everything (flight-sticks in particular are a conundrum), as we had to switch tasks, because we're still limited in development resources. That, at the very least, has not changed..

Ok, sorry to interfere. Enjoy your game.
Best Space MMO 2020 !
Since apparently people don't remember this, I'm adding a note to this thread.
On October 10th, 2020, in VO 1.8.531 we included:
- Added 'Clear A Bind' button to Keyboard menu, so keys and commands can be unbound from each other.
Further improvement ideas are, of course, welcome on Suggestions and such. As I mentioned last year, we intend to completely re-write the entire UI for configuring peripherals. But, for now, this option is available.
