I will add to Spellcast's remarks by saying that if a Guide pm's you, just chill out. Log off and come back later if you must. I've been weathering verbal abuse after pm-ing players with a polite warning: "Please do not verbally abuse players here. Thanks". I think I may start temporarily banning people who do that.

Ok This is a somewhat sore subject right now, however I am not intending to bring this up as an incentive to flame. I'm not interested in names or who did what to whome first. That Said, what i have seen in the vendetta community lately is really saddening to me. Today I watched a 20 minute argument that considted primarily of STFU and other such high minded insults. Now I know that there aren't any 5 year olds out there playing vendetta, your hand eye coordination wouldnt be good enough, So i'm willing to bet that everyone here is at least a teenager or better.

I would hope that we can all understand the ideas of polite behavior and socially acceptable interaction with each other. I find myself wanting to scream at some of the behavior i see in the on the chatlog. Now I'm not interested in in what people do in the game itself, pirate, grief, mine the station, whatever thats all good. What I am really starting to get tired of seeing is the adolecent bragging and chat spamming of things like STFU, Biatch, and other such colorful phrases. If you kill someone, let it go at that. There is no need to spout out things like "take that you looser" just because you happen to have won a fight, and to the killee (the one who died) don't take it personal. It's a little electronic switch being reset from 1 to 0, it's not the end of the world.

This is an awesome game/test, It's cool to have the frigate back and I think the devs deserve all kinds of credit and support for what they are trying to do here. I would be really sad to see it made unplayable because everyone in the game has degenerated to the mentality of a 5 year old in the back seat of a car on a 15 hour drive to disneyland.

Lets all try to behave like reasonable facimilies of mature responsible human beings. It's only a game. As for me. I try not to get upset by things that happen in the game. If I do and at any point I seem to be overreacting please PM me and ask me to cool off. More likely than not I will log off for a bit and regain my temper. Maybe we could all try this, I think the game would be a lot more fun if we could chat with each other without having to put half the univers on ignore to blot out the childish behavior.

Spellcast.

The situation is pretty grim... However I feel that there is not much anyone can do, not even Guides. There is far too many people who will be baited or bait people.

I totally disagree. There's much more to be done, but it requires a little more server-side structure yet.
Jan 23, 2004 Pirogoeth2 link
No matter how much there is done, the final decision still comes down to the players. Unless we had guides 24/7 or made the game P2P(Prevents people from using proxies and new accounts to spam) we can't expect a solution.
Jan 23, 2004 Spellcast link
Pierogeth2 thats kind of what i'm hoping we can get here.. a player organized solution. I don't think it's unreasonable for each player to take a minute and ask him or herself if the things he is saying are constructive and something he/she would say to a cop, a judge, or a priest. i'm sure that most people dont go around telling police officers to STFU. For that matter I highly doubt that most of us go around even telling our casual aquaintences to STFU.

Polite interaction with each other is not too much, IMO, to ask for. but maybe i'm too much of an optimist.

... spellcast... you havent met my acquaintences, or steve's. lol

the truth is that yes, the community is kinda crummy, and yes the people are very hostile to one another, the problem is that when someone proposes a solution, someone always comes along to ruin the solution.

The Human's creativity in coming up with ways to destroy is amazing... Anyway.

Spellcast, you are an optimist. It takes one person to make an entire community unstable, half a community is even more trouble... This is to be expected in any game, we will merely weather it and move on.

Maybe it's time we think of this "deteriorating community" issue as a sign of things to come. When Vendetta finally goes gold and gets mainstream the player-base is going to swell and we are going to end up with a lot of people who are less than civil. Have you heard about the stories with Sims online? Maybe we should just think of it as another facet of the test. Whether we like it or not, this is where the game will head if we don't come up with a server-side solution. A player based solution simply won't work on that scale.

What can I say, I already posted this matter up and what happened to it, calmed it down for 4 days and now it back up with the insulting. But good that you remind us Spellcast. Hopefully someday they will understand.

Actually, the player whose vocabulary consisted of "STFU" was actually a relatively long-time veteran who called the character his "jackass" character.

Maybe players would be more hesitant to abuse others if they knew every character of theirs was tracked. Guides, when you look at logs, do you see something like this?:

<SirCamps><Serco Fighter 1><red><Global>[5] yah loser.

That might be a good idea, if it's not added.
Jan 23, 2004 Suicidal Lemming link
That's the format the server log is in, which is why mortals do not get it.

Ah, very good idea. I would suggest that the devs or guides check the logs from

Magus the point is that this isnt a full scale game. It's a test engine and to some extent a market for guildsoftware. I understand the problems inherent in MMORPG's, however a full scale game usually has some form of guide/moderation system built in. The devs right now have more important things to do than worry about policing our behavior and keeping us reasonably civil to each other. What I am asking is why cant we just behave reasonably to each other and that way the devs wont have to listen to the complaints.

SirCamps. when did anyone say that the player going STFU was a newbie? It doesn't matter how long you have been playing for. If you want to have a mean character there are perfectly acceptable ways to do it without being crude and ignorant.

Oh well. I guess it doesn't really matter. I was just very frustrated when i posted the initial comment in this thread. Until the devs have time to get a better system in place.. i guess /ignore will just be my best friend.
