New Player on Linux - Hi!
Not sure if this is the right place to put this- I didn't see a dedicated New Player forum and wanted to voice just how much I am enjoying the game so far.
I was so, so excited to have found out about Vendetta earlier today. I'm a Linux user and former EVE Online player; Finding a game that can scratch my space MMO itch while running natively on my Linux machine is awesome! I think it's great that the Vendetta devs are making the game so widely available to people on platforms other than Windows and Mac, as well, and I definitely want to support that.
The "twitch" gameplay is also a lot more interesting than combat in certain other games I've played! I'm not very good at it yet but I'm sure that'll come with practice. I've just gotten going on my UIT character (finished the tutorials section), but Vendetta has already earned at least a few months' subscription out of me from my next paycheck. Hopefully I can hook up with a newbie friendly guild or something since this seems to definitely be the sort of game where socialization is key.

This was what brought me to Vendetta Online too.
Socialising is key, but try to pick an interesting role to play. Vendetta has enough archetypal 'good guys' or 'neutral traders'. Honour the time you invest here by picking a role that generates conflict, rather than collecting useless trinkets that the devs will likely data wipe one day anyway. That's the key to producing real gameplay opportunities to have a good time.
That's the spirit of Vendetta Online.

You'll find that old combat vets will emphasize the word "vendetta" as if it inherently means you need to do combat to play this game the "right" way. The true spirit of Vendetta Online is that it is a sandbox game and you can do whatever it is that brings you the most joy. Some of us like collecting trinkets, while others like complaining about the pilots who like to collect trinkets.

Welcome. I was where you were many years ago. Linux games were sparse and this was a beacon in the wilderness. I joined a pirate guild to learn combat and eventually went on to lead said guild and made many good friends. It starts as a Linux game and it becomes a family. Have fun and may your rum never be gone!
Welcome, there's plenty of time to find your role in Vendetta. Spend the early weeks doing missions, learning the equipment, upping your licenses and exploring.
Don't be afraid to go to grey space despite all the warnings on screen. Once you have a fast ship e.g Warthog MK2, you're reasonably safe because you can outrun most trouble. You can lose pursuers by jumping to a random sector (without asteroids) and immediately jumping to another random sector.
Have fun and take note of channel 100 because although there's a lot of childish trolling, you will learn about guild activity which from time to time includes organised events where everybody comes together for a race or battle.
