I let the game choose a name for me and it came up with Rodan-Ra Halano. It's a bit long tho so would it be possible to shorten it to Rodan-Ra and leave off the last name?

Open a support ticket. The devs have historically done this on a case by case basis and this would seem to be one they would be willing to perform.
