I'd like to get some Events posted into our official Events system sometime soon (this week?), before the December newsletter goes out, so I can link to them. Anyone interested?
As far as I'm aware, Nation War hasn't happened since summer, and I think TeamDX has dropped off as well. Nihilus has been doing his Duel Wars event, which looks cool and I'm happy to highlight if I can.. but it'd still need a "start-date" listed in the Event system, or something like that that I can point to.
I'm also considering cross-linking our Events with actual Facebook Events, which people can then use to invite friends via FB, and might engage some more people. It might be possible for us to automate this via the FB API, even, so it happens for any approved Event.
We've actually had our mobile versions approved for Notifications for some time, but we haven't written the push-system to use it yet. But that would be another way we could potentially engage some people (a whole lot of them, in that case), and let them know something is happening.
We'll probably also see some increase in veteran traffic between Christmas and New Years, during the usual free-for-old-subscribers promo, which might also be a cool time to run some stuff.
Anyway, first and foremost we'd need some quality Events on the calendar, hopefully with some experienced people running them (in the event that we see an increase in response, with the above outreach).
Thoughts?

Yea. I may as well run some sort of event.
We'll take 2 Tridents(NPC or Player, either or) and a "squadron". Basically you have to defend your designated TTM from enemy waves, and the first one to reach said enemy teams starting sector without dying, wins. I'm thinking of running through grey,to each of the nation borders. I'll pretty it up when I get the chance, probably tonight. thoughts?

Incarnate, TeamDX had stopped being regular, but i'm easing back into it. As you would know by my recent thread over in RP, I plan on hosting it during the veteren's free week, to try and get as many as I can in the event at once - but since i'm not entirely sure what the best day of the week is to host, im awaiting feedback. If you could tell me which day is the best based on previous years, that would also be greatly helpful ;)
One thing about the events, despite both me shouting in 100 occasionally and the comm tab & event screen, lots of people never know i'm hosting my events. Push notifications would be greatly helpful, i think. As for PC pilots, any ideas? Windows has its notifications bar, but does linux/mac have anything?
I also have a christmas giveaway; originally i didnt think i'd use the event system for that, but should I?

HighTech: That sounds like an interesting idea. Should be a good candidate. Planning on using Player TTMs is probably better short-term.. I have no problem spawning and parking some NPCs, but I can't currently guarantee if a dev will be around to do that at your scheduled time. It's certainly more flexible to not depend on our availability, anyhow.
Luxen: It's hard to say what day is best, because of the varied days of the week. Christmas falls on a Monday this year, some people may be back to work on Tuesday. Otherwise, the day after Christmas is usually pretty strong? The weekend after might be good too. The most important thing is probably just to pick a day and submit the Event for it, and then make sure we get the word out about it.
The Event system is basically intended to help with making sure people are aware of what's coming. It at least shows up during login (although most people skip it, I imagine), which will continue to improve, and I do also reference events during Newsposts and other things that go out on FB, Twitter and RSS.
So, if you have a Christmas Giveaway that involves players in the game somehow, especially if it means people being online at a certain time, it should definitely use the Event system. Generally, if it's something where you want to involve players in the game, on a particular date/time (or even "starting" at a certain date/time, like with Nihilus's recent idea), then the Event system works for that. The only caveat is that the advertised Events have to be inclusive.
What about bringing back NW on Sundays? Anyone interested in doing that? It's certainly a long-running historical event.

I'll start hosting Nation Wars on Sundays. I'll talk with a couple people to hash out a good schedule and rule-set, and I'll post details back here or on RP when we come up with something.
Another event that has been stuck on my mind is some sort of team or free-for-all deathmatch. By deathmatch I mean setting a period of time and seeing who gets the most kills. I think the fairest and most fun way to do these are with a BUS WAR(only being able to fly ec-89s or ec-88s). These things generally take place in a Corvus station sector so that we get more combat time and less flying time. This brings up a few RP challenges from time to time. Generally, we handle these easily enough, but sometimes it just isn't possible to stop one person from pooping in the pool.
But the main challenge that I have is not being able to record kills and deaths. If there is a way to do this, I'd be happy to set something up to use it. Without this we have to run it without any prizes or some participation prize.
But having said that we are also currently working on a token system for event participation. Basically any time someone participates in any event then they'll get some sort of token to go towards some in-game rewards. Still pretty fresh in the works, but I foresee lots of potential for this sort of model.
We've been slow in organizing these things together, but we have some pretty big plans for the future revolving around events and event-like happenings. There are quite a few of us that are working on creating brand new events. I am specifically focused on events that are less one-time meet-ups and more drawn out over a period of time. These are more good because they allow people to participate at their leisure, but they also come with more logistical challenges. The biggest of these being proper record keeping and proper advertising and reminding to get people to sign up or stay engaged in the event.
Sorry for being so long-winded, as you can see you struck a nerve. I think having more events would be rad as hell for everyone and I hope I can help out in some way.

I can run a Blargian BoomFest on the Saturday evening of free-week if desired. Bear in mind, I am UTC+10, so my Saturday evening is late morning-noonish UTC time.
(Speaking of time-zones (well, hemispheres, really), NW hasn't run since summer? Summer starts tomorrow for me!)
Alternatively, or in addition to, I can volunteer 2 TTMs for other events occurring at a "not-crazy-local-time". Again, I remind folks I am UTC+10, so that might be an unlikely scenario. I'll also only have the public holidays and maybe the days between Xmas and NYD off from work, so any one who could schedule their events in that time-frame would have a greater chance of my dents being available.

Sounds great, everyone.
Nihilus: I'll try to get some time for some simple event-management utilities to help you track things, if I can, but.. we're really crushed right now, I can't promise much at the moment.
Faille, I'd say pick the timing that works best for you. If we end up with an "international" type event that works better for Asia/Pacific people, that's.. still great for those playing from that area. 10pm your time is around 6am our time, and generally has a lower player-count online.. but as you say it's noon in London, so if we advertise the event well in advance, it may well bring in a contingent of Asia-Pac and European players? It'd be nice to have something to offer those players that wasn't at terrible hours.
If possible, it'd be great if we could get some Events posted into the system before ~4pm central tomorrow (10pm UTC)? I'm really not sure if I'm going to get this Newsletter out on time or not, but if I can.. it'd be awesome to have some Events to reference.

I'll run Corvus Mineral Research 5 Friday of free week at 9 pm EST.

Working on getting the next DUEL WARS post as well.

My CTF server is always online so with this plugin: http://www.voupr.com/plugin.php?name=csctf
a game of CTF is always possible. Some random folks were apparently playing it a lot in august-september according to the logs

+1 for CTF :)
Deneb Run FTW
+1 Pew Chat Die revival.....whoa where did that come from?
LaZy is out of FBC's basement! Hooray!
Oh goodie; ive een trying to figure out a way to get a hold of him
So. Itani(Blazzy)Trident departs from Jallik E-15 with 1x Prosus Neural Nodule, and serco(insert pilot here) departs Intros O-12 with x1 Neural Nodule. Basically,my intentions are to create 2 very good teams. So Team A's objective is to get the Prosus Nodule,And vise versa. I would like to have 2 people with recording software, one each team, but if that isn't possible, then oh well. Starting prize is 15,000,000c. But if anybody wishes to add to it they may do so. I'll update inquiry info when I get the dates laid out.
Note: There can only be 1* winner.
Genocide is encouraged. Though if you wish to "team up" and split the rewards, you may feel free to do so. This is a highly combat oriented event. If you wish for "the full experience(lol.)" Then I highly suggest going Solo on this one.
It IS Vendetta online after all ; )

It all sounds great, guys, but the most important thing is to pick a date/time and put it into the Event system, so I can work on spreading the word.
(Heh, and maybe don't describe it in your Event as "genocide is encouraged" either).

geez inc, quit trying to HR the game, the whole thing is a giant murder bowl, and every time you add new trading and manufacturing it's really just you unleashing more gazelles for the true stars of the game, the space lions!
:)
:)
Heh, be that as it may, the last thing I need is an official Event announcement going out that says "Genocide is encouraged!" and then that getting picked up by the gaming press or Twitter or something, and having some new context made-up for it..
I think we can be a combative online game without the soundbite descriptions that are likely to create problems.
