Vendetta Online November newsletter.

FYI, the November newsletter is out. (It's still going out, alphabetically by account name. All emails will probably be sent in a few hours).

If you think you should be receiving it, please double check your subscription preferences in Account Info to the left (is the little box checked for the email list).

Then check your Spam folder, and if it's in there, place un-flag it as Spam (on Gmail you just click the "X" on the little Spam tag). A lot of people hit "spam" instead of "unsubscribe" for some reason, and then Gmail learns from that and dumps it into spam for everyone else.

I also posted this space debris video on Facebook and Twitter, for those who hadn't seen it. Bit nicer than the "gif" version in the newsletter.

Besides the various updates I already thought was cool, and besides VendettaMark being a unique concept for cross-platform benchmarking (not to mention that, as you say, its an actual game enviroment and not just a simulation of numbers), lets talk about that absolutely sick centurion model.

I only recently decided to grind the standing in Orion to get access to the RevC - I was told its a great ship for how I fight. And it is - I love a paperweight vessel that can outmaneuver opponents. And then you release what has to be the best ship remodel of the bunch (in my opinion), all for the centurion. What awesome timing! Its retained that shape of the old ship near-entirely, yet looks less like a robotic space mouse with a mere texture change, into a proper ship that looks ready to kick some combatant ship rear. I dont think ill be flying corvults for a while.

Great newsletter, and I hope this stuff will be available in time for the event tomarrow! *fingers crossed*

Please say the hog is next, I wanna see what you have planned for that :D

Here's the image of the new Centurion, for those who haven't looked at the newsletter yet.

Glad you guys like it, will pass that along to Curt :). It was still a bit collaborative between us, like most of his ships, but I'm happy to see him coming along as an artist.

Please say the hog is next, I wanna see what you have planned for that :D

In my opinion, the Hog is one of the "least-bad", because I did a shader/texture pass on it a couple of years ago. But, we will get to it as well. There may be a need for other kinds of assets first.

The Atlas really obviously needs a re-dux, but I'm probably going to do that one myself.

I'm not sure how I feel yet about the new Centurion look, but I'm glad it got some love.

Allright that little VR demo through the debri field has me thoroughly impressed.

Kurts designs are a definite improvement over the old models (I mean they're like 15+ years old at this point) but in my fantasy land I like thinking Itani aesthetics have a certain "flow" I find this particular design to be a tad bit too angular for my tastes and its supposed itani origins. (If you even dare touch the valk in the next few years... Akan help me I will lose me shiet)

No joke the rear end of that new centurion looks like it got extruded out of a serco's robotic asshole. ;P

I'm guessing keeping the poly count low helps with all these mobile devices not having the same oomph as my tower but eh... whatcha gonna do.

Personally, I gotta say kudo's for updating the look while maintaining the over-all feel of all the new models. They are a huge step forwards, and each is still instantly recognisable. The new Taur is clearly a Taur, the Hornet is clearly still a Hornet, and the Cent follows those lines. Well done, Kurt. Please talk Inc into letting you do the Atlas too ;). Unless he has you doing the Tridents.

Itani/Serco/UIT might have once had fairly specific styles, but these chassis are copied and replicated all over the verse. Only the Valk, and Prom should maintain unique styling, as these are the only chassis that are not manufactured through-out the verse.

I like the centurion, beside one small thing: That blueish stripe which should resemble the cockpit...

Got a newsletter in my mail, seen the new centurion pic and... I have to agree with Faille.
Most new ships assets look overly robotic and new centurion is not an exception - no real soul or design flow, disappointing.

Ah well, the assets can't be all things to all people, I guess.

I would be more attentive to "Itani" stylized design practice if the Valk were to be updated (not currently a priority). But, for the Cent we mostly were staying consistent with the design language previously established with Luis's ships.

It'd be great to have an idealistic nation-based pervasive design, but that would be challenging to pull off right now (would need an external concept artist). I had to reboot this new ship project a few times just to force it to look like a Centurion at all.

Anyway, for my part I'm happy to just have the assets look less "dated". Fwiw, the angular aspects are stylistic and not for poly count, there's quite a bit of polygonal detail in the surface regions and exposed "technology" areas. I think it's around 4500 polygons, give or take.

It is notable that we can still change the "look" quite a bit through future Liveries. That might enable a Cent for more diverse tastes.
Nov 04, 2017 capt.tightpants link
Would that mean for example there could be livery only available to Itani or Serco for certain ships?
Nov 04, 2017 incarnate link
That's possible, yes.
Nov 04, 2017 xperia link
Personally, I like the soulless industrial design. All the old ships look like they were made out if cast iron or plastic.
Nov 04, 2017 Faille Corvelle link
Bojan, I don't see how you're agreeing with me, I said like the new designs and style. Did you just mean they all share a similar style now?

My only gripe about the new cent is the "hollow" winglets at the rear. This looks more like an oversight than an intentional design choice.
Nov 04, 2017 Lord~spidey link
Tbh I'm happy these are getting attention, would be cool if you left the old models in and turned them into liveries or something I'm all for the new as long as you leave the old in, granted its stuff that doesn't break the game!

I miss how penis-ey the taur and centurion looked, and ya can't have too many dicks that's why we invented bukkake!

Lapsus lingue Faille. I read Spidey's comment and mistakenly attributed it to you. Sorry.

nice inc!

Are the Centurion's wings and canards supposed to be hollow vestiges or is that an oversight?

One change I really like is the item message that now seems to say: Your "Faction Name" standing needs 439 points to buy this item.

Could be this one isn't that new and that I just hadn't noticed because I mostly play with PoS characters.
Nov 05, 2017 Luxen link
That change was made an update or two ago, ichi, but still pretty recently.
