New Player - Good Ways to Make Credits?
I'm a new player and was wondering if there were any guides or tips to making decent money in VO? I know I've seen mention of trade, but unsure of efficient methods of ship, items, route. How many systems on average do you have to travel away from where you bought the items to make a decent profit.
So far I just picked up Revenant Mk. III and have only killed bots for silk cargo they drop sells for 1600cr each. But this is time consuming and doesn't yield much profit. Usually 7-8k a run which ends up getting spent on repairs. Looking to start doing trade routes but not sure how to go about getting decent yields.
Someone mentioned as an experienced player starting a new character after little work to get necessary supplies to begin trading they earned 800k under 2 hours.

Load your ship with one of every weapon and commodity and see ship inventory for system prices
The answer is escort missions.
Selling Synthetic SilkSteel to a station is not wise, they pay poorly, while players that are building capital ships are willing to pay 20k+ per piece of sss.
Gather it and sell it in larger amounts, be very sure to meet at a secure location and that you get paid in advance.
Other ways of earning good money for a new player is, as mentioned, escort missions. But also trade missions: click trade --> procurement, then choose the ones that says "bulk", these will pay well and also increase your local and or nations standing quickly.

Well, all that synthetic silk steel you have been selling? Older pilots buy it in bulk for 5k+ each. gotta be in bulk though. selling 300 or more SSS all at once gives nice profits. You just gotta find a buyer, which, given the recent Goliath release to the masses, shouldnt be too hard.
Another think is, as TheRedSpy brought up, When you reach combat 3, you can take escort missions. These involve protecting a group of trade NPCs, usually behemoths, from attacks by player Pirates or hive NPCs as they move to another station. These award 6k-650k each, based on what item they are carrying, and are pretty easy.
Trade routes arent my forte, but can also be nice, though I have always viewed the p2p trade as more lucrative.

Venture out into grey and start PMing people that you will kill them if they don't pay up. Since you're starting out, set your price low at 250,000 credits. If they pay you, don't kill them that day. You won't get rich fast, but you'll get better at combat.
Trade can be very profitable. However, remember that profit = sell price - buy price. So, to maximize profit, you need to minimize the buy price. Or just, you know, eliminate the buy price entirely by getting your goods for free.
So, that brings us to my preferred method for making money: pirating convoys. Like they say, cut up the middle man.
You'll need to go to a capital station (in Greyspace you can use Odia M-14) to buy Cargo Scanners, which are an S-port item that will make it easier to decide whether it's worth the time to kill a given ship. Then you'll need a decent chase ship. In lieu of a Greyhound or Valkyrie, I recommend the Warthog MkII. It has better chase performance than the other Hogs, if not as good as the Hound, and it's cheap. The downside is that it has an S-port and an L-port, and the S-port will be used by your Cargo Scanner. That leaves only the L-port for a weapon, and there's really only one good (excellent!) L-port pirate weapon -- the Mega Positron Blaster -- and it requires 10 queen kills to unlock. So until you get that, you're going to have to rely on a Plasma Eliminator/Devastator of some sort, or maybe a Gatling Cannon if you have the licenses. Those are decent weapons in a stand-up fight, mind you; they're just not good for chasing. However, this is not the end of the world since you can often just get in front of an NPC convoy and start shooting, and it will stop for you while you kill it. Other players are not so considerate. (If you want to focus on pirating player trade, skip the Cargo Scanner and grab a more efficient S-port weapon until you get the Mega Positron Blaster or a Greyhound/Valk.)
You'll also need a reasonable cargo ship for retrieving the loot; if you don't have enough standing and licenses to buy Behemoths from Corvus (Trade 5, Mining 2), fixing that should be a priority, but you can get away with a Centaur or even a Revenant. It'll just take more trips to get all the loot. Note that loot persists in space for 15 minutes before the space gremlins make it disappear. Plan your retrieval operations accordingly.
And remember that piracy is not just about selling loot for credits. Many times the loot will actually be something you can use. That's especially true if you do manufacturing, but even if you don't, sometimes convoys haul weapons or equipment around. Usually it's low-end equipment, but not always. Sometimes it's even items that you don't have the licenses, standing, or badges to buy. I've stolen a lot of Ultra Charge powercells, for example. And when you're a newbie, even low-end equipment might be decent stuff.
Piracy is like taking a box of chocolates from a baby. You never know what you're gonna get.

It's pretty easy to get ahold of MegaPosis, though. While you are still getting your Queen kills, just ask on 100 if someone is willing to buy a couple for you. (Or buy them from one of the player-run shops, shopie or Greyshop.)
