It's a difficult problem. I'm on quite a bit on various accounts (many are unknown), and do intercede when I see something heating up. I know the devs do this sometimes as well. We really can't be on 24/7 at this stage. SOme people just aren't able to assert themselves adequately in the real world and tend to come on ultr-strong online. It's annoying, but to squelch it completely would take resources away from the main task of getting the code written and tested. One could argue that if it persist, that playtesters won't stay. I won't argue against that. Try to be a good example and help otherwise stable players keep their cool.

I think it is time to do something about the chat. Tonight two players told each other how much they do not like each other. The conversation included references to "I know where you live", "broken nose", "make your last will, you won't leave if you come here", and "sheriff lives 3 blocks down the road". At least at some point both players were talking via IRCBot. The conversation probably went on, but I /ignored IRCBot at this point. And no, neither SirCamps nor Phoenix were involved. Could we just all step back for a second and remember that this is just a game?

I usually listen mesgs like "pay me 30k and Ui'll be safe from me to the nearest <N> hours" :))

This is offtopic, but...

Sigh.. you ignored IRC? I'm not always there to monitor what people say with it but I'm not too happy that it was used in sending unwanted messsages. Currently the Vendetta IRC Relay is offline, but once it's online... and you tell me who abused the service I'm providing [Edit: Heheh.. I think I know who you are talking about now.] , I will see if I should remove their privilege of sending messages to the global chat.

The Vendetta IRC Relay can send private messages both ways. Tell them to message the bot for help.

I know some of the users of the Vendetta IRC Relay can be annoying and even the "<IRC>" before the name can be annoying. I'm sorry for that. I know I can't get you to unignore the bot, but, I just wanted to state this.

I /unignored the IRCBot the next day. I was just fed up with the conversation and muted it for the night. Otherwise the IRCBot thing is really cool.
