We need more marketing; we need more players. It's a simple fact. Please actually get some ad-system running

Vendetta relies primarily on word of mouth, with little control or incentive to those involved other than spreading the good word; in short, market evangelism. This is effective because it's honest, and there is no ulterior motive. Anyone can get involved, so help spread the word!
There are sometimes old favorites like this one generated due to Guild's brand partnership:

Aired on national TV; I remember someone came to the forum after years of being away from the game having randomly seen the commercial while at the gym.
Personally, I'm glad Guild is spending their dollars on developing the game.

Yes, Phaserlight. I think that's awesme. And of course it's honest. And word of mouth niche games always had their special charme. But what the OP is asking for is more players and he thinks this can best be achieved by doing some marketing.
Wouldn't it be awesome if grey space was buzzing with activity? 5000 players, online at the same time, flooding the area from Odia to Ukari? I think he wants this to happen. And so do I. So I'll use this thread to ask a question that I feel the OP means to ask aswell:
Hey developers! So what is it that you have in store to massively increase the playerbase? Is it the iPhone release? Is it the Steam release? Is it something else? And WHEN is it going to happen? Do you still believe we can make this "dream" of 5000 players flooding grey and engaging in combat come true?

You guys remind me of little kids yelling "Are we there yet?" and believing they could get there faster if their parents let them drive, even though they have precisely zero experience driving and only a vague concept of how the roads are laid out.
Good analogy Pizza! It's almost like that
Except the roadtrip has lasted 15+ years, and a lot of the kids have grown into adults during that time, and are STILL looking around wondering why they aren't there yet. Or at least, wondering why we're only marginally closer (if that) to the destination.
The fact is that despite a decade+ of development, more random partnerships than I can count (all explicitly to keep the game alive/bring in new blood.... but at the cost of dev cycles on things for players who were already here) this game doesn't feel any more populated or livelier than it did in the early 2000s.
In fact over the past few years I'd argue that it feels even less populated (but the devs/mods SWEAR that the playerbase has actually grown, so I'll give the benefit of the doubt and attribute that to pilots being more spread out & not talking as much)
So with that in mind I think it's perfectly fair for players (many of whom have stuck with this small indie title for a long ass time) to have an open dialogue with the devs about the emptiness of the universe and what things might be done to help
[edit] That said, I acknowledge there's basically no chance that this dialogue can stay open and civil. ESPECIALLY WHEN DUMB PEOPLE LIKE ME MISREAD NAMES AND JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS!

smittens, you have Pizzasgood mistaken for Phaserlight again. Pizzasgood is the guy with the big mouth.
But I agree the analogy is idiotic. For obvious reasons.

Ack yeeeeah good point. Deepest apologies, Phaser. I edited my post, and heck you can remove it if you'd like since the whole tone was mostly based on my misunderstanding
& Pizzas doesn't have any bigger mouth than you or me (....bad examples, but still). I disagree with his post/analogy, but I understand that these kinds of threads pop up fairly often and usually generate nothing constructive, so I can sympathize with being sick of them.
...but I do also think they're mostly valid, for the reasons stated above

They are not valid questions. They used to be valid, but then they got answered or declined. Now those questions are just nags.
I agree with Pizza. His analogy is excellent. I've already explained the plan to you guys. Which is why Sieger can specifically quote parts of it in his little bolded section.
We've working as hard as we can, on targets we've already told you about, with deadlines that keep moving and are often out of our control entirely (due to other companies and forces).
For the last 15 years, I've also been saying:
- If you like the game and support it, great!
- If the game is not for you, and/or you have lost faith or burned out: No worries, go play something else!
If you really want to "help" and make the game feel less "empty" (I mean.. it is a space game, it's going to "feel" a bit empty?), then perhaps consider submitting a scheduled Event? Those can be fun and popular?
Or make some other Suggestion related to genuinely improving the gathering-together of players in particular game locales (be it for gameplay, social purposes, or whatever). I won't be able to implement it for awhile, but I will be interested to hear about it. There are actually lots of possibilities in this area, that haven't been explored.
But don't just complain that we aren't there yet. Because there is nothing I can do about that, that I am not currently doing.. at a rate that already makes developer-burnout inevitable.
