A story and a call for reform.
Enough talk of pirates! Gather round all, Tempest is going to tell you a story.
Once upon a time, Vendetta had only four sectors, an there was a reset every fifteen minutes, indicated by a timer. Score was a fleeting thing, and money did not exist. For what was there to buy? In those first days when the universe was young, weapons and health were scattered about the voids for any humble to player to claim and thus empower themselves. Ships were also easier to come by, for a player was granted a limitless supply of one craft of his choosing. Even stations had no meaning. When docked one was greeted with a simple message: "Welcome to a generic station". And it was good.
Then came version 3, and we were cast out of that simple universe into a cruel realm where we were forced to defend ourselves and our precious spacecraft, lest we perish and pay dearly to replace that which we had lost. Some chose exile, never to return. For those of us that remain, life continues to be a struggle in an ever expanding universe of doubt and fear. Though occasional distortions in the fabric have periodically granted us great wealth and power, we know that the gods will eventually remove that which was not meant to be. And so we continue to live on and make our way, painful as it can be sometimes....
And therein lies the problem. In the early versions of the game, it was structured as a deathmatch, where death was inconsequential and the highest ambition of any player was to frag his peers. Great for a fun day of reflex tuning and ego boosting. Unfortunately, people don't seem to have noticed that things have changed. Ships are very expensive now, and killing a newbie can often result in a great deal of pain, considering how much time and effort a newbie ship has invested in it. There are no more powerups, no more respawns, no more tally and reset. The damage is real and...well, damaging. I don't propose any solutions, but people should be more aware of the problem. Vendetta will fail utterly if something is not done to reform the community, or if the game in not reverted back to its original state. The latter, in my mind, is not a desirable solution, since there are dozens of space shoot-em-ups already on the market, which leaves the former...

I think a couple of things that will probably be coming out in the future should fix these problems. 1) Reputation and/or consequenses to actions 2)Some sort of guild system that allows players to band up, not based on nation colors but on the integrity of the guild and with their friends.
which will be when the Corps Diplomatique will be released from its Stasis Chamber to live up to its claims.
