Gamepad with PC config
I'm trying to use my Steelseries XL gamepad with the Win 10 PC version of VO and I'm having difficulty binding the buttons the same way I have them when playing in VR. Most problematic is that the left and right triggers don't seem to register at all (I can't assign them to anything) and the left fire button brings up the options menu no matter what I do. I really need that to be my primary fire button. Any suggestions? Thanks
buttons that get hard wired to bringing the options menu up, i dunno how to fix, but if those triggers are analog you need to go to the joystick pane, not the keyboard pane (in case thats what your doing). In "Joystick", scan for available devices, and if your joystick doesnt pop up, use the drop-down menu to select it - If you have multiple joystick items connected, you can choose which to fly with.
hopefully this helps~~
hopefully this helps~~
Have you tried manually binding them in the file? Helped me reassign the A button on mine.
Luxen, the joystick shows up in the pane and has a few options that I believe are correct. I scanned and no new one shows up. The existing one corresponds to the one I have. In the keyboard pane I see the joystick buttons but not buttons for R2 and L2 which would be the lower triggers. Kind of strange.
Anton, I have not tried that, I don't know how. Is there a guide on how to do that anywhere?
Thanks

If the L2+R2 triggers are analog, you will need a plugin to bind them as normal buttons, otherwise they just show up on the joystick pane as axis and can only be assigned to a few select commands (I use them for roll anyway, so I dont have this issue). See http://www.voupr.com/plugin.php?name=analogtodigital for info.
The button that brings up the menu can be disabled by unticking the "force gamepad for UI navigation" under Options > Controls > Input. You can still use the gamepad to navigate the UI without this option, using the dpad. After you have applied this, you should be able to rebind the button using the keyboard page. I might also suggest binding the "chords" to NONE with the following commands - /bind ChordXY NONE and /bind ChordYB NONE. You could also bind them to something more helpful than the help menu, but I prefer to just disable them using the above commands.
If you find you still cannot bind the default menu button, you can edit the config.ini file directly and find the [Controller (your controller name)] section (you can find this file in the VO install directory, c:/program files(x86)/vendetta online by default - you may need to copy this file elsewhere - edit it and then copy it back and do not edit it while VO is running), find the button that is bound to Quit and clear it, then save the file. (on my install, the joystick stores it's bindings in the config.ini, not the wgaf.cfg file)
It has been a bit of a mess changing all this recently, I understand that the devs are trying to make things easier for newer players, and enabling game pads to be more usable without a keyboard or mouse, but it actually makes it harder for "normal" users who want more customisation. Especially because the default control bindings are whack. The setup I use across all my devices -->
(Yes, the clockwise and counter clockwise are backwards, that is because they are in the game too :P)

When using a Moga pro in A mode on my phone, no matter what I do the B button is always menu. I can get around this by using B mode. When using it on my PC I use MogaSerial which emulates an Xbox360 controller. I'm not familiar with your controller, but if you have the same issue, maybe try using x360ce to get around this.

Thanks very much, I'll dive into it in depth today.
Can we have this stickied for future issues?
Holy smokes what a pain!! I finally got it to work. I had to download the steelseries engine 3 so that I could update my controller then unpair and repair the controller to the pc, then disconnect and reconnect the controller to the bluetooth on the pc so that it would be seen as a controller and not just a mouse, then uncheck the force gamepad for UI box as suggested by yodaofborg, then go in-game and map keyboard controls then go out of game and modify the config.ini file to remove some settings that in-game doesn't allow to you modify (specfically the left trigger =quit) then kill a chicken and throw it's entrails into a heated brazier then put my right foot in and take my right foot out then I had to invoke several Gods and finally I had take my dog out to pee. Somewhere in there it started working.
You forgot to invoke Incarnates name to make it a permanent change....
