Ok yes i said the dreaded 4 letter word, relax i'm not interested in nerfing it or discussing changes to it in this post, there are plenty of other threads for that.
What I am interested in is having a thoughtful discussion about the valk's role in capping, and what difference, if any, it creates in game. It appears to me to be the best ship for use as a flag capture vessel due to it's maneuverability, armor and weapons loadout. Now, i'm going to reason from this Hypothesis for my next few statements.
Hypothesis: The Valkarie makes the best capping ship.
Projected Result 1: If capping is easiest with the valk, then the nation most likely to get caps is itani, due to the ease with which they can purchase the ship.
Projected Result 2: If Itani caps easier, they can generate income from capping faster.
Projected Result 3: More income means they can purchase more valks, return to result 1.
Conclusion, if you want to cap, itani is the nation to join due to the valk.
Now, If you can find any logical problems with my hypothesis or the projected results, please post considerately so we can have a calm discussion about them. I Tried to solo cap a few times earlier today in both a vulture and a valk. I got the flag with both classes of ship reasonably easily, but dodging my way back to the wormhole i found that the valk (which i had to fly all the friggin way to 18 for) was much more survivable on the outwardbound trip. (btw the centurion sucks at capping solo) and only in a valk was i able to make it back to sector 4, where phoenix promptly blew me away but hey, that happens.

Yeah but... CTF won't be in the final game, will it? Are these proposals only short term or long term?
CTF is here to give us something to do. <-- what has been repeated several times
I expect CTF to live, but as a mission, like retrieve item from itani nation, or destroy itani nation weapon prototype.

-Can we destroy Itani nation advanced fighters instead?

preferrably in their hangars...
Wow, there is s lot of Valk-envy around at the moment. You know you all want one. Its the best ship by far. Nothing comes close. It should have, like, 1000hull, 1 mini port (smaller than small), have the maneuverability of the old defense turrets and carry no cargo. Then it would be balanced.
lol, then it would just be a roid
No, it should be shaped like a bus with one free gun stuck underneath.
I fear that some will not stop whining until all weapons are removed, and Vendetta is turned into a "Demolition Bus Ramming Derby 2405." But then they'd complain if they lose.
Spell, I'd think your post is a little too narrow in view. With CTF removed, then what would you use the Valk for?
The Valkyrie is a space superiority fighter, and hence its name, is superior in every manner to all other fighters (duh).

I thought it was "advanced." Not superior. Names can be misleading! For example GameBoy "Advance" was nothing more than GameBoy but with color and some other minor features. Hahahah!
It also has a higher res display and a significantly more powerful processor, and uses less power than the original gameboy.

Keywords include "higher level than others." Not "highest level" or "above all", which is essentially what marks superiority. GF GG!!
=)
=)
Yes, but something that's superior is more advanced than everything else... :P
"pedantic": marked by a narrow focus on or display of learning especially its trivial aspects.
Enough with the dictionaries! No more off-topicness.

Actually I cap in a warthog and find its much better. So everyone has an equal chance to cap the flag.
Nah. A couple of valk players and blue becomes impossible to cap.
Even if theres no CTF feature in this game, everybody will still be Itani flying valks.
If the special fighters were only limited to their nation, then it would defenitly be unbalanced.

You know, despite all this about blue having easy access to valks etc, etc.. it doesn't seem to stop most of the best pilots (when im on at least) red, gold or blue, from tri-flare valking.
I myself suck at capping - but the two times I tried in a valk I got torn to shreds, whereas the two times I tried it in a warthog I actually got the flag and almost made it out of enemy territory.

Ah caping in a Valk, nice idea, definatly not the prefered method from what Ive seen.
Hogs and Vultures seem to be far more comon when caping.
Protection from persons once the flag is out of the home sectors, Then a Valk is ussally around to help out, Or to have me killed =)
From my point of view a hog and Vult are much more cost effective and just as effective with the bots.
However protection on the travel back with the flag, I always like a Valk by my side.

ok, I've now determined the problem with the valk.. none of the pilots can read.

Arolte, WHAT PROPOSALS?!?! I just wanted to see if other people thought the valk was the best capping ship, theres not a proposal in there.
Sir Camps, how is my post too narrow in view, I'm interested in the effect the valk has on capping, it's just something i wanted to find out how others thought. I have had a lot of time on my hands as i have been sick.
most of the 2 above comments apply to the rest of the posts until FM told everyone to stay on topic and phoenix posted

Finally A post that sticks to the topic. (thanks phoenix)
OK, I didn't try in a warthog, I'll have to try that. What do you usually do with the bots in the home sector, do you just dodge them or try to kill them quickly and then get out? maybe my problem is my dialup not my ship.
Hunter, DO you think the valk is the best flag defense ship then?
Starfisher, hmm you like the hog too.. i wouldn't have figured a medium ship would be more effective.. hmmmm.
Zeplin, so you find that having a valk as escort home is better than actually using it to cap. interesting.
Thank you for the insights, I'll take a look at the warthog later on (prolly tomorrow, got work here soon, and it's gonna be a 12 hr day)
