New player questions :)
Hi all,
I just discovered this little gem of MMOs, and I think it's fair to say that, you too, will probably sooner or later encounter me in space somewhere, I will most likely upgrade to premium (which, in turn, may have to do with me being a huge space afficionado).
For the past days I have been reading the forums, looked at the entire VO-page, but I was unable to answer two questions.
1) How many active players are in the universe on average?
I have seen there has been a nice little gem called the Active Player Graph or something, but it's gone. The graph on the left shows players by faction and time, but it doesn't reveal numbers. I then went and added all numbers from the player factions, and ended up at around 2,200 players in total. Is that correct?
2) External API for web based tools
I have seen the long list of available plugins for the game itself, which in itself, is already quite impressive. Since I'm a technical person, I'll be playing around with them to find out which ones work best for me. I have also seen this wiki - http://vo-wiki.com/wiki/ - which also provides useful info. Now to my question... is there some kind of package, like SQL files or something, which would allow programmers like me to create external web based tools, such as Item Databases, or something like this? I think I'd very much like to create such tools.
// EDIT
3) Player-built structures
I am just looking at some screenshots over at http://viperguild.com/forimages/ ... and I'm seeing rather funky things like Twisted Station, as well as a Cap Shipyard. I take it one can actually build and maintain structures in some way?
(sorry for newb questions)
Thanks guys
P.S.: I hope this is the right board section to post this

Welcome.
1) There is no way to have an accurate count of actual players playing as the logged in count includes many free2play (f2p) & lite account which are used by various groups as spotter bots in different sectors.
2) There are no API webtools as VO runs a very small dev team who are constantly working on the actual game and they just don't have the time for very many extra tings like this.
3) There are several player manufactured items. The biggest being the Trident Type M capship, the other player manu ship is the Centurion Superlight.
Very soon there will be the Golitah and Trident type S & P as well.

Welcome to Vendetta Online!
As said by Washy, there's no way to know how many are online. The old counter was removed for various reasons (VO had some really inactive times). Especially since it opened for mobile players the game is much more active. Certain areas are still underpopulated, but it will get better.
In fact... you can make it better! Grab that full subscription and fly around. If you cross grey, I'm sure we will meet (and your ship will explode!).
Expect the Trident Type S and P to be manufacturable. Washy is not exactly right with saying the Goliath will be manufacturable for sure (unless he has some super secret knowledge). The devs have been very quiet about this. Some players hope it will simply be purchaseble for a high price in the millions, while others hope it will simply be manufactured. The whole Goliath thing is very thrilling lately.
In the long term, massive structures are planned to be manufacturable. Player owned stations are the thing a lot of players have been looking forward to, for example.
Enjoy your stay at VO!

Hi all, thanks for that :)
One more question... I have gotten a look at the entire map, it's quite massive. Now, when you jump into a sector/system, you mostly arrive near the station or asteroid field, or whatever is the prominent hallmark in that particular area.
However, the areas are - I hope - larger than that (from the technical view, they are, but that's not what I meant).
For example, are there things hidden in areas, are there more things to see or find, and if so, how do you find them? Can you use a scanner of aome sorts?
Sorry I'm curious and excited about this game!
If you fly in "deadspace" (a sector with nothing in it), can you "remember" a position? Like a bookmark? Or is that of little use in VO?
Thanks again :)

It is possible to create TCP connections to remote systems, but there isn't really a standard method for such interconnectivity. There is a Lua httplib floating around for interaction with web pages that don't use SSL/TLS. There are no direct data offerings from Guild Software.
I've seen empty sectors with roids far in the distance and they had some good mineral's but most are just empty
I see. I have read that at least one system has a mega massive construction yard for cap ships, which is "carefully hidden". I'd be interested in knowing if there is more to the empty grid regions, or if they are truly just empty.
For the moment, I believe my direction is Jack of All Trades :)

Latos m7 had the capship yards but it's not a massive station any more its like other Capitol stations now
The old station model can still be seen on the test server in Devlopia. Un-fogged, even.
WELCOME
ya VO don't have a structured query language for any database management, unless you talk about TGFT and their "tech".

Let's just say that I'm attempting to build up something, for that I'm also trying to create a small database as a starting point myself.
If I have anything useful, you can be assured I will share it :)
