Interesting bug on a mac: pressing 'i' to zoom, or using the /+zoom command now just makes asteroids flicker. /set fov still works though.
When you jump sectors wouldn't it make more sense for the animation to zoom in instead of out?
I did it this way because it looked more interesting, to me. Particularly in VR.
Having played for a bit, I can confirm that I like this new warp thing, particularly the lack of a loading screen. Feels much nicer this way. Other than the bit that unfocuses the chat bar while warping, but I guess you know about that already. Once you fix that, it'll be perfect.
I have to say, I'm a huge fan of the new warp graphic. Especially the 2nd half where you warp in. The first half looks strange like you're backing away from everything, but overall it's probably my single favorite aesthetic update in a long, long while.
Now... if you could just figure out how to make the stars stay static when you zoom (they're millions of light years away) and just bring near-field things like roids, ships and stations in close.
I think everyone underestimates how often people use zoom. Heard quite a few people complain that zoom wasn't working tonight, but Ray said he'd fix it in-game earlier. The Vzoom plugin works fine, if anyone is using it. I have it bound to my mousewheel. Just pressing "i" is broken though.

Yeah, I was surprised how often I found myself trying futilely to zoom in. Really took that feature for granted until it wasn't there anymore. D:
I'm happy to say that the Play-Bold font is growing on me a lot faster than I expected it to.

That dark glow around HUD message text is a major improvement for visibility, thanks for doing that! :)
I can't play on PC until my fiber gets installed on Tuesday but from LaZy's video, the new jump effect looks a lot less impressive to me than the old one.
Just the FOV-stretch and fade to black is kind of boring. How hard would it be to add some particle effects that fly in front of the ship to jazz it up? Would that be a literal eyesore for VR?
The speed and distance indicators also just sorta sit there doing whatever you were doing the moment you hit Activate...

The warp out is the wrong way around, it should zoom in, not out. Especially seeing your jump animation, making it look like you're moving further away from the warp point is really counter-intuitive.
The warp in looks cool, and the lack of loading screen is a plus.
The shadow behind the HUD text is good, makes it way more noticeable.
The speed and energy indicators should disappear when you warp, it's confusing as hell otherwise.

I suppose they could max out and change the speed text to "JUMP" or something.
The shadow behind HUD text is actually awfully ugly. Semi-transparent black rectangle would be a far better solution (85-90% opacity).
It reminds me of the early 90's when people first discovered Photoshop and it's capability to create text with shadows.

We actually tried that, and it looked a lot worse. Part of the problem is the diminished content and resolution you see when you "zoom in", where zooming-out the FOV gives you the benefit of added graphical content. I understand it's counter-intuitive, but again.. it was an effect that we could do on a short notice that didn't have a big performance impact.

I'm not a huge fan of the aesthetics either, but there are some technical factors relating to the way the text system actually works, and how we could add this without impacting performance. There are still some possibilities for improving it a bit, but for the moment it does improve readability.

I noticed you are using a black rectangle with a shadow now.
Would it be possible to remove shadow and just make the rectangle opacity 85-90%.
Cyan text would be perfectly visible on it and it would look better.

From what I've learned in physics class, Incarnate's version of the jump is actually closer to what one might observe approaching light speed; relativistic aberration would make everything appear to get further away, initially.

That's cute and all but wormhones arent a reality as far as we know and wouldn't necessarily make you travel near the speed of light. Aesthetically speaking it looks good yet a bit awkward. but as the debs have said they tried it the other way and this looks better.
Cool stuff.
