Porting Vendetta to network-capable consoles

I'd advise you to look over the specs for xbox compared to the other consoles... then compare Halo on xbox to Halo PC. Huge difference. I hate to say it but with the technology they're putting into consoles these days they're the future for gaming... there's no drivers! Imagine that :-P

Xbox IS quality - I even use it for a comp, I put linux on one!!

w0000t linux.

Moo.

The only way Vendetta would hit the XBox would be if someone got the Linux version to run on it.

Has anyone tried that?

I'd try it, except I don't have internet on the XBOX right now. It is still a bit buggy on implementation of anything other than dial up.

You mean the massively multiplayer, gigantic, living world that would take a year to circumnavigate? It's being released as Halo 3 in 2007. :P

Silly boy, that's Halo 2! Didn't you hear they're bumping the release date another decade?

Lets not forget about Rogue Leader, which was one of the reasons to get a Gamecube.

dont be hatin.

All because it's made my Microsoft doesn't mean anything. Some of the games for it are really good. Like Project Gotham racing. And halo. and. and. and.

it's not the games we're worried about. it's that microsoft muscles its weight into every little spot on the planet what bugs me. if the xbox were quality hardware, ok. but it is not.

I've had nothing but good results with my Xbox, through a year and a half of hard usage. How is the Xbox low quality?

Anyhow, it's certainly powerful enough to play any forseeable version of Vendetta.

wouldn't that be a near-impossible-to-handle amount of work?

My primary suggestion is to port it to the Xbox. It usues all of the Windows 2000 API's, has standardized hardware, and is very, very easy to develop on. (or so I hear)

Yeah, XBox is essentially a PC. It has an Intel Proc and runs DirectX. The networking API is (afaik) somewhat different, though. Figure a 2 hour porting job, including compile time. The whole auto-update thing would be a problem since the hard drive probably wouldn't like having the entire game on it, but all problems have a solution.

I belive i requested this a while ago.. Incarnate said that Microsoft said that there "wasn't a big demand for any form of space game, MMORPG or otherwise."

ya Microsoft will probably steal the idea and make millions off it.

After Vendetta is finished it would be cool on a x-box or something like that.
Nov 12, 2003 Magus link
You would need a keyboard for one. Second of all, I don't know anybody that buys games for the X-Box if they are available for the PC. (Unless they have a crappy PC.) Why do you think it took so long to port Halo over?
Nov 12, 2003 Arolte link
IIRC Microsoft already turned down Guild as a publisher for Vendetta. It's going to have to be PS2 or nothing from this point on I believe. And since there's limited time and money, I'm guessing nothing. Maybe when the game becomes REALLY populated that might change though. By then PS3 will probably be out, with even greater internet gaming capabilities.

We would port the game to consoles if we make enough money with the pc/mac/linux versions. If I recall, to make a game for the XBox you need to purchase the dev system which is very very expensive.
